Hi
i havent got that far in the venice campaign as of yet just trying it out after installing the patch ..... but i have a question.. is there a diplomacy bug?

Scenario ive been at war with the byzantines for a while vhvh ....
Last turn i managed to take Thessalonica from them which is west of Constantinople anyhow For some reason at the beginning of my next turn
"MSG appears Venice and the byzantine empire have declared a truce......"
What the ... i never spoke in any negotiations,
There was a byz diplomat near one of my armies but i ddn't negotiate a ceasefire or even see a diplomacy screen???????????

Anyhow this sort of occurance im sure has happend a few times when playing other factions but ive missed the msgs
Which would explain why its impossible to maintain a good rep ......

Has anyone else experianced or noticed this 'feature'?

I *think* what happens here is either:

1) You form an alliance with one of the Byz's allies - or -
2) The Byz forms an alliance with one of your own allies.

Either scenario will prompt an automatic ceasefire between you and the Byz. What I'm not 100% certain about is the conditions under which this can happen, since if you are speaking with a neutral faction who is allied to someone you are at war with you can't even propose an alliance.

But I suspect that what IS allowed is the following: Say the Danes are allied with YOU and at war with no one. They ARE allowed to propose an alliance with the Byz, which will negotiate a ceasefire between you and the Byz. In otherwords, only a 3rd, neutral party can form the 2 alliances necessary to negotiate a ceasefire. A similar thing happened to me in my 1st campaign, and I've heard another player report that they managed to cause a ceasefire between 2 factions the same way.

The problem is easily resolved either way: send some HA or Lt Cav out as a single unit into Byz territory, prompting them to attack you. That way you keep the alliance and they lose it!

+1. This is the exact same explanation I just figured out last night as I went backwards through the previous turns.
