Ok in the greater scheme of things not that important but how do you actaully save a game. In RTW I appear to be resticted to either quick save or the game itself's auto save. I suppose you have to live with a dodgy campaign decision. In MTW war you get the option of saving whenever you like and reloading to that particular spot ie year or faction thus having several campaigns on the go at the same time. is there something i need to activate on RTW for the same option.

In R:TW you can save at any moment during the campaign by pressing the escape-key and selecting save. However, this option is not available during the first part of the prologue, which is a pain. If you want to avoid the prologue, go to the [Rome - Total War]\preferences\preferences.txt and change the line "first_time_play" to FALSE.

Welcome to the Org, BTW ~ .

:furious3: That s what i have been doing. Whe i go to esc i get a choice of either quick save or auto save. saving either simply re writes that save. What i want to do is save at say year 222 and progress down to say 212 if thing are ok no problem. but if it goes pear shaped i can reload at 222. On MTW your save screen may look like this.

Saved year 1100
saved year 1150
saved year 1200
Quick save
Auto save.

thus you can access any number up to a limit of 100 saved games/factions.

I can save at any point in RTW but the auto save always seems to kick in at the worst possible moment and the healthy option dissappears. I thus only have either auto save or quick save to work with

You can enter an alternative name for the save game in the field below, so it will not overwrite the quick and autosaves. Unlike M:TW, R:TW does not automatically generate names for savegames.
