Ditto. Anyway, I guess I'm too young.:juggle2:

Well, if I ever have to (say, in time of crisis or something) I definitely would. However, as it is now, I don't give my blood. Come to think of it, I never have.
:balloon2:
Too young, have to wait a year. Tough I don't think I'll be doing it regulary.

Yes, I've donated blood twice and I'm planning to go tomorrow to donate for my third time. To me blood donation has been a surprisingly pleasant experience and that's why I actually can't wait for my next donation. It's just feels nice. Anyway I warmly recommend blood donation to all of you. Try it, atleast once.

I don't give blood. I drink blood. :ahh:

Yes, I do it 4-5 times a year. That's as much as Im allowed.
I'm not good with giving blood. I would if I was able to. I couldn't really vote in your poll...
Not allowed to. If you've lived in the UK for more than 6 months you can't donate blood in Australia.
Alcohol content is generally too high...
Every day.

I give blood to the mosquitos every summer. They sneak in when I open the door. There's no use stopping them unless I poison the entire room, but I don't think that's good in the long run. I'm so used to the bites that I don't itch anymore. Plus it gets itchier if I itch.

I generally make a stop to a clinic every week or two.

I gave blood once, my duty to humanity fulfilled. I wont give any more, though my anatomy professor will give extra points on my finals if I give blood during the semister and provide proof, so I might give blood one more time.

I was giving blood about 4-5 times a year and got my 5 or 6 gallon pin, I can't remember exactly. Then about 2 years ago the Red Cross asked me to try pheresis (platelet donation). Since I'm not working, I can afford the 2 to 2.5 hours it takes to do pheresis. I get to catch up on movies I haven't seen while I'm donating, so I get some entertainment out of it. You can do pheresis every 2 weeks and I think the Red Cross would like me to do it that often, but I usually donate every 3-4 weeks.

I was going to give blood the first time, but I had some Xsthma{sp?} on my arm, so it was too hard to get the needle right. So, next time they are around here, I am gong to try again.

4-5 times a year, every two weeks, ...
Are you sure your giving blood and not plasma?
In Belgium you have to wait 6 months before you can donate again, but you can donate plasma every two weeks.
I've been giving blood since I turned 18 and almost never missed a chance ever since. It started partly because I would get a free film ticket but now it's pure out of altruïsm (or so I tell myself).

We don't want anything to do with Brittish people. That or the mad cow disease variant for humans (Jacob-Kreutzveld or something like it).

When I was in the US I had started giving blood regularly, including double red blood cell the last time. But I don't believe I can in Deutschland, and I may not be able to for a while after I get back.
Why on earth?
They're scared of Mad Cow and BCSE or whatever it is.

Im giving blood 3-4-5 times a years, depends on how much they need. Im allowed to donate every 3 months, however, my bloodtype is quite rare (only around 3 percent has it). So they dont need that much only if accidents happen and in emergency situations. Then Im called in to fill up the supplies.
Only if I could make money with it ~D

Same here in the US. 6 months in UK during a certain time frame (basically the 90s, from the BSE scare) and they won't take your blood. Which is why I can't give.

What are the rewards/incentives in the UK?

I love that typo, you must be a blue blood then.~:pat:
I have not given blood on a consistent basis for 5-6 years now. I'm diabetic and have a genetic disease, hemochromatosis, or iron overload in my blood. I haven't asked if this would exclude me from being a desireable donor. I would think my high iron content blood would be just the ticket for those with anemia. Anyway, after my recent dealings with the medical profession, the less I see of doctors the better.

It's good to see you back, by the way.

I did not come into this thread intending to vote Gah, but you forced my hand. I give blood about once a year, which is neither "regularly" nor "once." Fine, push me into the Gah camp.

Never. Only when I was in recruitment for army.

There aren’t any incentives in the UK to give blood only the warm feeling inside that you know you have done good, I didn’t even know where to give blood until I spotted a van outside a sports center a couple of years ago.
What are the incentives from other countries?

In Finland the benefit is a sandwich with water/juice/tea/coffee.
I get needled tomorrow morning for a blood test and I have to starve myself for 12 hours before they drain me.
Seventeen minutes left. Time for two beers at least.

the benefits in Belgium are multiple:
- If your a student and the collection happens at your school you get a filmticket
- If you donate at a collection organised by the red cross then you can chose between different gifts ranging from a towel to a comic.
- If you go regular to the hospital than you can earn points that when you saved, you change for something good like an electric drill or a vacuum cleaner.
The cola and sandwich are always free.
No. Partially because I am anemic and partially because I am terrified of needles

In the USA you get to eat as much of the free food, and drink as much of the free juice/water that they give out as you want. God my English is going to hell...Oh well.
You also get to have people dote over you and tell you not to stand up for 15 minutes...Well that happened one time anyway, but not when I gave double red. When I gave double red they just let me go grab a snack, I sat for a few minutes because I had to drive afterwards, and then I just walked out.
Anyone else give double red blood cell?

I used to give blood (and thrombocytes) regularly during my university time (the institute for chemistry was very closely located to the largest hospital of the city ... go figure).
In the last years I did not do it anymore (not enough time/too lazy), but I think I might start again, at least for the blood (usually they are keen on 0 neg)

Another poll where my answer isn't even an option:
No. Because I've had viral hepatitis, same reason my donor card says take anything but the liver.
