I have just been cheated out of an epic victory. What you see there is the last throw of the Turkish armies. My Emperor Basil led a strike force into Yerevezan province and laid siege to the city. The enemy sultan war cowering behind the gates while his son attempted to bring in reinforcements. And so it came to pass. The Turk relief force stuck my Emperor from the rear. But as luck would have it the battlefield played into my favour. I deployed my army on a steep clifftop with only one viable way up. In the first assault I ordered my Byzantine cavarly to sally against the enemy's reinforcements. It was slaughter, my cavarly droze through their ranks and slew the Heir. His infantry rushed forward but were caught between my infantry and my horsemen. They were utterly crushed. It was then that the Sultan finally managed to crawl his way onto the field (he wasnt even delayed, stupid AI couldnt deploy quickly or something). I sent forth my ranged cavarly and they shot him to pieces with little loss. So I withdrew with Turk infantry moving behind. They took the bait, so they climbed the hill and were doomed. My infantry charged downward, my Emperor routed their rearguard, my cavarly closed the trap. It was all over, nothing left to take the city.
back on the campaign map, I took a thousand prisoners, I put them to the sword. And then.... the AI f*cked up. It couldnt figure out what to do. The game sat on the Turk AI turn. And so my glorious victory was for naught.
:)
