Would it be possible to make a ww1 or 2 mod; since it's possible to make tanks?

If you don't mind tanks running away from infantry or if they get caught up by another group of tanks they'd start fighting by bumping each other.
And your infantry would exchange fire while standing there like Napoleon era.

Could trenches be represented on the battlemap? As for the tanks, a unremovable skirmish mode perhaps. I know I'm clutching at straws, but it would be a nice mod to have around.

You could try and mod walls...
But lets face it, this would be a lot of work for a not very good mod.
Me and my friend where thinking about a WWII mod, but I don't think it would be possible. I think CA's next release should be about a modern time period, that would be cool.

The real question would be: why would you want to mod this game into WW2 when Company of Heroes is already out?

A World War I mod, The Great War: Total War, has been tried - I led the team.
It did not advance very far beyond a few units and planning stages because of a severe lack of interest.
Don't even try it.
Company of Heroes??? That's merely a "lead a small company thru a shoot-em-up war game" title compared to what he's envisioning with RTW/WW2!
To convert the whole RTW experience into WW2 would be amazing!!(if possible)
I've always thought(imagined,dreamed?) about the whole thing,and if I ever get experienced in modding, it's something I'll undertake just asa hobby of my own.

GAH!This sounds a good idea.But if you says that...

Davey, modding isn't too hard with a little determination. But I'm not sure if a mod like this would be possible and still be good.
Thx for the encouragement SSJVegetaTrunks, I'm just on the verge of diving headfirst into it (reading all I can get my hands on).
Starting also to realize just how much an endeavour all of these projects are,no matter the size,and appreciating modders all the more.
If not the WW2 project, I've also wondered if you couldn't incorporate N.America as well on a larger map,as well as adding other civilizations that were (or might have been)around in the same time period as TE. Maybe that would be more feasible,starting with TE as your foundation and adding to it.
I don't know, still dreaming. :)

i would love to help someone if they wanted to try doing it.
What is TE?

Is is possible. It can be done.
I would advise trying the following;
You can trn off ele's ability to run amok easily, so that's no problem.
Make a modified scorpion cart as a gun-car.
Ballista as artillery
Handgunner anims, ask citadel - they've got good ones.
Admittedly it would be slightly unrealistic, but if you can get;
- A good modeller
- An experienced coder
You would be well on your way! Good Luck!
P.S. Make it for Vanilla 1.5

Sorry for the double ost here, but I can't find the edit button.
Other ideas;
- Skirmish formation for all inf
- Bazookas by having a simple anim then changing the ammo.
- Gun planes in battles are not impossible either. Hard, but there are ways round this sort of thing.
P.S. PM me if you need coding help, I can't work on it myself but I'm often around to give advice.

Maybe they should come out with a current events mod. You know: strong America, rising China, the Islamists and the other countries. The campaign map will look swell but i agree the total war engine is designed to simulate ancient battles where opponents actually faced each other and fought it out instead of shooting at each other behind cover. The battlescenes will be difficult.
I strongly suggest you don't bother trying to make a modern era war mod. It is doomed from the outset.
Certain things CAN be done,,,including tanks ( which I know from personal experience are very possible ) trucks and suchlike. I made flame throwers, mobile artillery and a few other gimmicks, but there are things you really cannot do.
1) Set AI unit into skirmish mode by default. AI will not enter a battle with AI set to skirmish correctly for missile weapons. They have to be manually switched by a player.
2) Independant fire. Your units will volley fire all the time. You cannot avoid this, and it stinks for any kind of modern troop tactics
3) Close range shooting. Due to (1) and the limitations of volley fire, you cannot engage in missile combat up close. The only exceptions are elephants whose riders can do this. You are limited by the models used for the riders though. You end up with a fixed 'rider' as well as the 'turret' shooter. Your design must hide the 'rider' somewhere!
4) Lying down! Your soldiers will not take cover.....instead, they will stand up and get shot! No modern troops do this.
5) No air warfare is possible
Aside from that ( and the issue of whether the AI can get to grips with the concepts of modern warfare ) everything is just about possible. Unfortunately, though, the things that you CAN'T do are pretty much mod-killers for any modern era warfare.
I am not one of those 'nay sayer' types though. I was making a mod based on robots :) My story line, though, got around the gun battle idea. Missile combat was minimal, and the bulk of warfare was conducted with brute force, drill weapons and cutting discs ... all animated ;) One day...I must get around to finishing that off...all I was missing was a decent 'reverse leg' mech animation. Every time I made one, the thing looked like it was skating.......:thumbsdown:
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: The most recent period of history on which a Total War game/mod can be based is the Napoleonic era or a bit later. After this point warfare changes considerably.
At the point in history where large formations of men in brightly coloured uniforms marching into battle and getting shot at ends, and where squads of men skirmishing running, jumping into ditches and firing automatic weapons backed up by air strikes, APCs and tanks begins, that's the historical end point for TW games/mods that are based on the current game engine. Trench warfare would be well nigh impossible. I have no idea how the units would shoot from the trenches or get in/out of them. This is a job for a wholly different game engine. It simply can't be done and won't work, plus there are too many other game engines out there more suited to this.
