It was an age of small kingdoms but lots of them and Great Leaders who managed to forge all the budding realms we find in the later game and more possibilities of what if.
There was Alfred the Great, Charlemagne, Brian Boru, Mac Beth, The real Aurthur, and many many more.
It is the age when Islam was founded and the Popes gained power and became more than a puppet of the Byzantine Emperor.
I was looking at the big map mod with a possibility of 199 provences...

All of the mods I have seen discussed are for either much earlier or later than the campaign.
How many people know that the Frisians were raiding and doing what the Viking did two to three hundred years prior? It was also when Eric the Red and his son established far flung settlements and actually went to the new world. The time of the supposed Welsh colony in the Americas and St. Brendon's Voyage.
It was an age of greatness, and built the foundations of all that was to come.
