View Full Version : Macedonian recruitment in Tylis

I noticed that the Macedonians have very limited factional recruitment in Tylis even though it is a homeland province and both neighbouring settlements (Byzanth and Serdike) seem happy to provide phalanxes, hoplites and the usual macedonian units.
Is this intentional or a bug?
Very likely bugged as is recruiting all over the map. Probably won't be fixed in time for .81 either.
there might be some bugs, but its not a recruitment problem. there just weren't makedonians in that area. those hellenes that had been settled in the region when the Thraikian Odrysian kings ruled there had all fled when the Galatians took over. you need a native population to field your units.
so I check recruitment, and while you can't recruit phalanx units there (except the late period phalanx), you can recruit elite shock troops (pheraspidai) and thraikian variants (agrianikoi, thr. peltastai/hippeis/prodromoi). what i would recommend is putting in a type 3 or 4 government if possible, so you can get access to some mighty nice gallic and thraikian units (taxeis triballoi, kuarathoroi, and kluddolon, for example).

As the Romans I can only recruit Gallic soldiers in Tylis (I don't think any cool Galatians though).
I play Epirus, and can recruit only gaulls, in local MIC's

I'd take a lesbian army over a thesbian one any day. :2thumbsup:
I don't think there's anything wrong with Makedonian recruitment in Tylis and it certainly isn't limited unless you think this is limited:
laosatae (celtic slingers)
kluddolon (galatian shortswordmen)
Lugoae (celtic levy spearmen)
Sotaroas (celtic archers)
Thraikioi Peltastai
Agrianikoi Pelekephoroi (Agriannian assault infantry)
Pheraspidai
Hypaspistai
Thraikioi Hippeis
Thraikioi Prodromoi.
That's everything I can recruit in Tylis in my Makedonian campaign so I wouldn't call that limited as you have a good mix of local troops and you can even recruit 2 Makedonian elite units (Pheraspidai & Hypaspistai) and you also get the Agrianikoi Pelekephoroi, these guys rule by the way :2thumbsup:

What level of MIC's do you have?

You can get it from Mytilene, I believe.
(Edit: Wrong city name, I'm too lazy to factcheck.)
What level of MIC's do you have?
Tylis (gov type 1, only native recruitment Mics)
Mic Level 1 -----
Mic Level 2
Thraikoi Hippeis
Mic Level 3
Thraikioi Prodromoi
Mic Level 4
Pheraspidai
Hysteroi Pezhetairoi
Thraikioi Peltastai
Agrianikoi Pelekephoroi
Mic Level 5
Hypaspistai
For the case you´ve established gov type 3 or 4
Gov type 3, Mic Level 3 (f) Leuce Epos
Gov type 3, Mic Level 4 (f) Taxeis Triballoi, Galatatikoi Kuarothoroi
Gov type 4, Mic Level 5 (f) Lavotuxri
Hope that helps!

Damn, the old 'level 1 produces nothing'-trap :shame:

I also have a Type 1 gov and native Mic 5 but I wasn't able to train any Hysteroi Pezhetairoi at first (I checked after I saw your post).
Now I'm like a decade further in my campaign and I recently conquered Salamis (cyprus) and they were available there so I checked Tylis again and now I can train them there too, weird.
Is there some kind of dynamic trigger for there recruitment of Hysteroi Pezhetairoi or something?
The laosatae, kluddolon, lugoae and sotaroas become available when you build the local Mics, I think you can build 3 levels of local Mic in Tylis with a Type 1 gov.
Damn, the old 'level 1 produces nothing'-trap :shame:
lol yeah you have to destroy it first and build a new one, it's also best to destroy the Mics if they're not from the same culture group.
The laosatae, kluddolon, lugoae and sotaroas become available when you build the local Mics [..]
yeah, i know havent had the time yet to include the "low level" units in my list, sorry.
Mic Level 1 (f) Kluddolon, Lugoae
Mic Level 2 (f) Sotaroas, laosatae
I made a mistake, the Lavotuxri arent available in tylis, i copy_pasted the end of the Ankyra list, sorry for that too.

:san_shocked: Huh? I thought it works like this:
Gov type 1: n max Mic level 5, f max Mic level 2
Gov type 2: n max Mic level 4, f max Mic level 3
Gov type 3: n max Mic level 3, f max Mic level 4
Gov type 4: n max Mic level 2, f max Mic level 5
:san_shocked: Huh? I thought it works like this:
Gov type 1: n max Mic level 5, f max Mic level 2
Gov type 2: n max Mic level 4, f max Mic level 3
Gov type 3: n max Mic level 3, f max Mic level 4
Gov type 4: n max Mic level 2, f max Mic level 5
I'm not sure, I'll have to check.. that's why I said "I think"... :sweatdrop:

You are correct. It should work like that for everybody currently. If it doesn't, that's a bug. ~:)
Ohhh that sure does explain a lot about recruitment... So does that mean I can tear apart my government type 1 or 2, build type 4 and then have both native and factional lvl 5? :idea2:

It is possible to do this. However, it borders on exploit territory. Future versions may discourage you from doing this through game mechanics, so enjoy it while it lasts. ~:)
