Has anyone come up with some good ways of avoiding xp/weapon/armour upgrades (especially those made by the AI) which make strong units nigh invincible and numerous weak units far more able to kill like a professional army than they should do?

Has anyone done any investigation into how the AI decides on such things and if it uses money or cheats etc?

I'll have to look into it but just posting here so as not to reinvent the wheel if someone has already done a bit...

?

Well, you can make all low tier unit's weapon type to be simple and limit all upgrades of simple weapons. Or limit the upgrade of weapons to the highest level on certain building and limit that building to be buildable at certain locations only. The AI is not very smart at moving their armies to certain spots only to get a weapon/armor upgrade. They only upgrade when the army just happens to be the garrison.

Just make the building only buildable in Themiskyra.

Themiskyra? That's near Bree isn't it? ;)

Wles - yes, I had considered that but I am sure I've seen the AI pump out loyalist revolt units with armor/wepaon upgrades even though there are no buildings with such bonuses - and even then XP has the same effect and seems unattached to buildings. The other thing with assigning simple/bladed weapons is that the description will call up "light/heavy" and I do so like the descriptions (like the building browser) to be correct.

I will think more upon it - and do some tests if I get time.

Thx. for the feedback.

The game does that semi-regardless of the buildings. I say semi because i removed *all* the weapon, armour, exp upgrades from my game as i couldn't stop myself obsessively moving all my units to get the best upgrades. Since then the max that revolters get is one armour upgrade when they revolt and no exp. So maybe it is somehow based on the max available upgrade in the EDB?

I find the game more enjoyable without them as the AI doesn't use them like the player does and it is one less distraction if you're the obsessive type. I just made blacksmiths into economic buildings instead with some tax and trade bonus and made the barracks buildings dependent on them.
