How can I change the difficulty after I have already started my campaign?

I am on VH/H playing the HRE, and I am finding it to be way too easy. I'm on turn 75 and have alrteady long since totally dominated, having Denmark, All of the brittish isles (except two settlements) and most of France in my posession ofr the past 10 turns. I would like to up the battle difficulty to VH in hopes that this campaign can be salvaged, since at this point I can just autoresolve my way to inevitable world domination, which is lame as hell. Does anyone know how to do this? I did a forum search already, but no dice.

Hi Buck !

1. Download the MedManager from the downloads section....here: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local_links.php?catid=135
2. Install it.
3. Launch it.
4. Double click your savegame from inside MedManager.
5. Make all the modifications you want using the MedManager interface.
6. Save changes (preferably to a new file).
7. Launch game.
8. Load your new savegame.
9. Play !

Thanks Sinan, I got that done. I don't know how to check to see if it stuck or worked, but I am assuming it did.

As for other modifications, so far I haven't figured out how to make any with this.

Stuck ? What do you mean ? If you launch the game after making your modifications, then play on, and save later. Then if you want to check if it saved your difficulty level you go back to MedManager and check it from there. It works though, at least for me it always does.

To make mods (actually this is in the readme and on the downloads page) you:

1. Make a Mod template.
This means checking the boxes next to those folders which you will mod.

2. Then click Mods from the top menu, and click New.

3. Name your new mod.
What this will do is create a backup of those folders that are in the Mod Template, and add a shortcut to your desktop whcih launches the game using those folders rather than the default folders.

4. Now you mod those folders to your liking.
This allows you to have multiple mods running without messing up your original installation.

You should check the Mod Chat forum [also listed under M2:TW group of fora (pl?)] for a more determined AI enhancement, whcih I think is what you are looking for.

I have used MedManager to mod mercenaries so I can hire more local troops, I've also added to that the VnV fix, roads everywhere, and a few others (which I've forgotten now). You can also check the downloads at www.twcenter.net for some mods.

Choose carefully as not all is what you may want. Also some mod packs have more than one mod included in the pack. You have to have a look see inside if it's something you want or not.

Using MedManager you can test any mod without messing with your original installation (also in the d/l des and readme for MedManager):

1. Download any Mod e.g This mod
2. Extract to your main M2:TW folder under the name This mod
3. Make sure that the file paths that the mod requires are the same inside the This mod folder as they would be if you had simply extracted the mod to your default M2:TW directory.
4. Launch MedManager. It will automatically detect your new mod, and create a shortcut for it.
5. Click the shortcut and it will launch your game.
6. Test your mod in game.

Step 4 here can sometimes be tricky due to directory path, but is easy enough.
