What with all the browser based nation simulation games being thrown about her at the .Org as of recent, i thought i should introduce you all to quite a good, lesser known one - ogame.

Basically, ogame is just like cybernations, only on a massive galactic scale. You start off as with a single planet, with about 100 metal, 100 crystal. From that, you build up your planet, until eventually you're in control of a massive empire spanning the universe. Obviously at the same time you have to fend off other people with the same ambitions.

It's a pretty good open game, and you can never be defeated. It's also one of the few games you can describe as truly epic - to get anywhere near being very good you'd have to play for at least 7 months, and even then you wouldn't be up there with the big guys. It's definitely not a game for those people who spend an afternoon with it and then give up - this is for people willing to come back day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year.

I've been playing for a month or so, and have only just managed to become capable of building battleships. Right now i'm in control of 3 planets. If anyone does decide to start playing, and wants to check me out, my co-ordinates are 1:277:11. I wouldn't attack me though, as i have some pretty good stuff!

My fleet right now consists of 1 battleship, 2 cruisers, 10 light fighters, 4 heavy fighters and 2 large cargoes. It used to be bigger, but i'm currently recovering from a devestating attack from one of my enemies. I won, fortunately. My defenses are also pretty sweet - 10 rocket launchers, 8 light lasers, 6 heavy lasers, 2 ion cannons, 1 small shield dome and (my pride and joy) a gauss cannon.

Also, for those of you who do intend on becoming fanatical about this game, here is the ultimate thing you can build - the deathstar.

It's not ridiculously OTT, like in Star Wars - it's only capable of destroying destroyers and sometimes moons.

I'd strongly recommend this game. It's very fun and will draw you in.

I used to play it, only I was a lot bigger than you. I had 30 Battleships, 50 Cruisers, 4 Recycler, 20 Large Cargo ships, 200 Missile batteries, 200 Small Lasers, 100 Large Lasers, and 50 Gauss Cannons and both a small and large shield dome.

Until somebody with 300 Battleships ganked me and wiped me out.

And then it happened twice more by different people.

Then I realised it took up so much of my time and I wasn't getting anything out of it any more so I just turned it off.

There was a thread on this a while ago, or at least a thread that started talking about Ogame.

Probably the best moment I had was when 4 people in the same alliance started probing me and sent some worrying messages to me (something about them having a term for me, a savings bank) - worrying because there were 60 players in the alliance, the Bulgarian Army or something - so I probed them with a dozen probes each, discovering that they had only ships and no planetary defenses (one guy had around 40 small and heavy fighters, the rest had between 10 and 20 fighters). So I build my fleet up till I had 20 cruisers and hit them simultaneously, and then raided them constantly after that, at lunch, dinner and bedtime.

Then I stopped, and only raided inactives after that, before finally getting ganked badly.

Moral of the story - you may be the biggest guy within a dozen systems in either direction, but you will soon attract the attention of somebody bigger than you who will just smash you.

Unless you are one of the first people into a universe, you will always get beaten in my opinion.

I used to play it, but quit for the same reasons as Grey_Fox.

100 large lasers? Back in my time I never built those as they gave the least bang for your buck of all defensive buildings.
I imagine Ogame has changed quite a bit, though.

A friend of mine introduced me to Ogame, oh, last summer, I think. Played it for awhile, got into a scuffle or two with the neighbours (nothing missile launchers couldn't fix), raided a couple of planets, but it gets repetitive.

Build, wait for resources to flow in, build some more, raid for resources, build, wait for resources to flow in ...

I quit after 2 or so months playing. Never really got far, though, lasers, missile launchers and fighters were the mainstray of my little Empire.

I can't read anything about this game without snickering about the "O-face."

Anyway it looks like not much more than an excuse for people to mudsling to incredible degrees.

It pisses me off.

It isn't that bad, I played it for a while but just didn't have the time to continue playing it, some of my friends still play it though.

GAH! I spent the better part of a year playing that bloody game. :dizzy2:

I was doing well for a while: I had 8 planets (all with 110 fields or better), each of which had a dedicated fleet of at least 20 Large Cargo vessels to ship resources to my homeworld (Terminus). All my major buildings were at level 15-20, and most technologies had been researched (with the exception of the 2-3 of the "uber" techs).

My capital itself boasted defenses consisting of both Small & Large Shields, 250 Plasma Cannons, 500 Guass Cannons, 1000 Large Lasers, and 2000 each of Small Lasers and Missile Launchers. In addition, I had a modest fleet of about 50 Destroyers, a few hundred each of Battleships & Cruisers, and around 1500 Heavy & Light fighters. (I also had about 200 Large Cargo vessels and 100 Recyclers in orbit as well.)

I figured I was doing okay....until I was walloped by the 3rd-ranked player (I wasn't even in the top 500 yet). He wiped out almost everything I had--ships, defeneses, resources, etc. My cargo ships and recyclers were off-planet at the time holding some of my resources, but everything else was smashed. After that, all of his buddies (all of whom had been weaker than me before I was attacked), swooped in picked off what little was left. :furious3:

I still had resources coming in at a good clip, but I couldn't bear taking all the time necessary to rebuild everything again, so I gave up and quit. It was kind of fun while it lasted, but it got way too repetitious after a while.

Meh... I playing this game right now, amdist four others. I've only started two weeks ago and I'm well on my way to making a battleship early next week. This game takes up too much time, time that I would rather spend on cybernations...

What universe do you play in?

If it's 17, then i can assure you that i am not searching every system in my galaxy for you.

I play it, for about an average of a couple of minutes a week. Invade some inactives and such. I have loads of defences but almost no offensive power
