I was just wondering which faction people have had the most success with playing. And which faction have you had the most fun playing? For me it's the Scots, as i always see them as an under dog. Plus there's just something about roleplaying as a highlander. :inquisitive:

Most success has to be France and most fun was my first campaign with HRE, never could continue that HRE campaign either cause a mistake when i saved it.
For me it was Milan. So much money to hire and bribe. A perfect setting for political manoeuvers and treason.

For me it is Venice since you have so many directions that you can expand in.
English so far, and spain, though those are the only 2 ive actually got around to playing
Russian and Scottish were the easiest, and the most fun. Though my current Sicilian campaign is getting quite interesting...
I have decided I hate the Italian states...no matter who I am or where I am they feel the need to betray and declare war on me. I am purging them from the globe now, however, so that helps me feel better inside.
I found the Venetians the easiest. Buying Bologna on the first turn, taking Florence and crushing Milan as well as getting everyone to pay you for alliance is great. I also managed to land my force on Crete next to Corinth on the first turn and siege it on the second. The Byz were crushed in short order. I also quickly took Antioch through a crusade. By turn 20, I had most of the richest lands of the game all in my hands.
Most fun is probably my Russian game right now when I decided to relocate to Britain. I think that any relocation game might be fun. Turks are also a blast. I'm a big fan of horse archer armies.
My only completed long campaign so far has been Venice, and that was fun enough until the late game where my borders were so massive that I got declared war upon by every faction touching them. Then it turned into a bit of a slugfest.
So far, I'm only at around 1140 or so in my Spanish short campaign and I have to say it's really good fun. I don't know if it's the fact that I know much more about the mechanics of the game and thus alot of the "playing in the dark" feeling has gone, but the peninsular war between the Moors, Portugal and Spain is alot of fun. I even had France come knocking in the middle of it, arriving with a full stack at my northern borders. While all I head was a small, dusty (but damn experienced) Iberian army of Jinetes and Alumghavers skirmishing with the Moors in the mountains to the south. Really captured the spirit of La Reconquista, I think.
I've had my most success with the holy roman empire. Although they are right between several strong countries, this can also prove to be a hefty advantage. My general tactic is to allie with every country around me, then take rebel land and consoladate my land by impoving trade etc so that when you do start your conquest you can easily fund it. Generally i then knock out the danes before pushing may way westward into the greater powers and of course south into the outskirts of rome. From there its simple reely

Sicily! I took the Holy Land by turn 25, invaded and crushed Egypt by turn 29, and completely destroyed the Moors by turn 30. I owned Africa and most of Anatolia. I destroyed the Byzantines by turn 35, and now I'm moving up into Hungary, Spain, and Portugal.

That's given me a neat idea for my next campaign; create an empire in the east while just retaining my home cities back in Europe. Nice one.
I actually did that in my Sicilian game. As soon as I came into contact with the Papal States, I bribed him to get to high enough relations to declare a Crusade on Antioch. I then stuck everybody into a boat and sailed east, sacking Antioch on turn 7. I then proceeded to annihilate the Egyptians. by turn 12 or so.
I actually lost Durazzo to the Byz due to me not guarding it at all and I only took Tunis before embarking on this crazy scheme. Kingdom of Heaven, here I come!

I'm having a blast as Milan...after playing the Byz and Spain I feel like I am drowning in florins....I buy things I don't need, spend some on the Poop...er Pope. It started affecting my day to day judgement....my RL finance is never going to recover after this Christmas :dizzy2:
Egypt's been the easiest (won on turn 58) along with england, but the byz and danes have been the most fun due to severe financial problems (caused by a multifront war as the byz and maintaining a kingdom of heaven as the danes at a massive loss)

So far I have had the most fun playing as the Danes. I have roughly 200k in florins, which blows my mind as to what to do with it. It's those merchants I sent east and south. When you get 650 per merchant it really adds up. I usually play a slow game, around turn 70 and I only have 6 provinces. I don't like to rush, because the AI needs all the help it can get. The French has been on the Pope's shit list for awhile so I decided to call a crusade on Paris, that was pretty fun. It was even funnier when the Polish took Paris and have been holding it for 10 turns or so. I think I am going to try and play as the Moors or something next. Mix it up a bit.

I too am playing as the HRE and thing's are going great. From my original starting position i've moved south. I destroyed the Sicilians and now completely own Italy except for Rome. Milan and Venice attack me on occasion but are really only a nusiance at this point. I've moved into Egypt now and am moving west from Tunis. Just a few turns ago the Poles decided to attack me which was a mistake on their part. I'm about to attack their capital, so i'll see how that goes. I'm trying to take thing's as slowly as i can, just for the fun of it. :inquisitive:
Oh, i forgot to mention the HRE ;P
Turn ~56 (iirc), i hold all of germany, most of poland (one province left), most of france (2 provinces), northern italy (except genoa) and am moving on the rest of france/poland as well as denmark and genoa.
I've been excommunicated since about turn 5 :P
Well... I have only played with France and Vience and am having much more sucess with Vience after two unsucessful games as France, first I was being conqured, second I was at war aganist... just about everyone on my borders and I might had been able to build up and defeat them all... except the country was completly bankrupt loosing 3000 per turn. Then I decided to try Vience because it looked easy to start of conquest with and it was. I am on turn 70-something, I have taken Constantonable and about to take that city across from it again (first time, I lost it because I wasn't defending it with much and the Byzantines wanted it back really badly)... yeah I have turned the Byzantine Empire into a joke. I have every costal territory from Naples to Constantonable. On the Western Front, as me having Naples suggest I have deystored Sicily. I am also finishing off Milian in Eastern France and have taken all of the Holy Roman Empire's southern territories.
Sorry for the wall of text... I just like talking about my games and have no one to talk about it with :embarassed:
That's what we're here for :P
Denmark-your starting postion is very nice, i normally take out rebels asap then take out Scottland and England. You get good bang for the buck with your troops although you may not have a "super unit" You have effective tools for any situation. Its easier to have 1 enemy at a time which normally is my only undoing in a game. I have tried Scottland and try to wipe out England and Denmark asap but i think Denmark is in a better postion to do this.
Milan-I like their roster of troops the best. Although i normally end up with multiple people at war with me so i don't think they are as easy for me as Denmark.

I think my favorite so far is venice due to their milita ppower and there ablility to expand eveyr where. Im currently at war with milan, byz, holy roman, denmark, sicily, hungry, turks and egypt and im still fine i dont get much money cause i usally get seiged in two places per turn but i just lift them grab a new province sack it and keep moving. Also cause im in the far east i can get cardinals very quickly which is nice. I am some how not excommunicated to date...
Love this campain.
