Samsung SyncMaster 931C - a few questions

My dad was ever so kind to get me this supposedly AMAZING LCD monitor, and everything I read on the web says its the best 19" LCD on the market. So I've super happy with it so far (except for some view angle issues, which I can get over). However I popped in my favorite games (Rome: Total War and Medieval 2 Total WAr) to have some fun. I had already set all the color, brightness and contrast settings to my liking. THe screen resolution is set to native res of the monitor and the refresh rate of the monitor is set at 60Hz. So I play the games (only games I have installed right now) and both suffer from SEVERE ghosting. The 931C is suppose to have 2ms response time which is suppose to effectively eliminate ghosting. However its really really really bad. Anyone with a 931C experience the same issues? Am I just unlucky and maybe I need to return the monitor for a new one? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Even scrolling these forums I am noticing pretty heavy duty ghosting on quotes or where colors differ in the main index.

If it's any help, I have a SyncMaster 930B and don't have any ghosting to speak of. My CRT may have looked just a tad "crisper" but considering the much smaller footprint, far better power consumption, and less eyestrain- I'm not complaining. :2thumbsup:

Thats kinda wierd... for 2ms? I have a ViewSonic VX922 2ms monitor, and compared next to my Inspiron 9300 monitor, its like night and day. The dell ghosts something fierce compared to the VX922. Sometimes I think its all in my head though too. Compare it next to a different monitor and see how they look.

Can you set the refresh rate higher? Did you install any drivers? Did you check all you settings?

Did you, Heaven forbid, read the manual? :book: "Ooooooh..."

Here is what I found in knowledgebase for your LCD in Samsung website about ghosting issues:


The primary reason a monitor displays ghosts is a weak video signal. Weak video signals are caused by the following conditions:

You have connected your monitor to your computer with a cable longer than six feet.
You are using a wireless connector between your computer and your monitor.
You have the monitor set to the wrong resolution.
You are using a KVM switch to connect your monitor to several computers.
If your monitor/computer configuration matches any of the conditions above, changing the condition, as described below, will in almost all cases end your ghosting problems:

If the cable connecting your monitor to your computer exceeds six feet, replace it with a cable that is six feet long or less.
If you are using a wireless connector, move your monitor closer to your PC or replace the wireless connector with a cable that is six feet long or less.
If your LCD monitor is set to the wrong resolution, set it to the correct resolution. A table with a list of native resolutions by monitor size is below.

If you are using a KVM switch, connect the ghosting monitor directly to your computer with a cable that is six feet long or less.
Note: On rare occasions, ghosting is caused by the video card. If none of the conditions above match your situation, try attaching your monitor to a PC with a different video card to see if that ends the ghosting.
