Right, the situation is I downloaded the patch from gamershell and then extracted it and ran the application choosing the M2TW directory for it to be installed to. However when I launched the game, in the options screen it still said v 1.0.

So I went into the game directory via windows explorer and had a look around, what I found is that the patch had placed the 1.1 medievalII exe into a folder named 'main' (although the 1.0 version of the exe was still in the main directory) so I just copied it from 'main' into the right place, I then launched the game and saw that it is version 1.1, supposedly.

My question is, is there any other way (appart from checking the options screen) of knowing if the patch worked? Because in addition to the exe being in the wrong place, there was also no 'tools' folder created for the unpacker, instead it also had been put into the mysterious 'main' folder.

Thanks

You didn't install it; you extracted it.

Go to where you extracted it (or extract it again to the desktop) and run the file called setup.exe to install the patch.

If you mean double clicking on the WinRAR self-extracting archive then I did that.
I unzipped the download into My Documents and then double clicked on the application that then appeared in My documents, which was the self-extracting archive, which placed the 1.1 version of the medieval2.exe into C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\Main while the medieval1.exe in the C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War folder was still the 1.0 version. I just copied and pasted the one from the 'main' folder into the Medieval II Total Wwar folder and I'm just wondering whether that actually applied the patch and if there is another way of checking other than the option screen in-game.

No, that didn't work.

You need to extract the archive to a tempoary folder and then run the file 'setup.exe' to apply the patch.

Copying anything into the m2tw folder is a big no no

I had a similar question to this in another thread. Can I download the patch to any random folder and still have it install properly?

Yep - download it where you want, extract it to where you want and just make sure it detects the right m2tw directory when you install it.
