Hey all,

This is sort of off topic, but I just reinstalled EB on my new system and was wondering what are some typical video settings that people are running well. Im running a Core 2 Duo 6600, 2 gigs of ram, and a Nvidia 7900gt. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks.

I insist on having huge unit size, and can just about hold high unit graphics and turn the rest to minimum.

core 2 duo 2.67 ghz, 2gbs of corsair ram, and Nvidia... something or other, the 1 gb video memory one. I run max everything, though the main reason I got my system was so that I could do video editing, and not have to upgrade again for quite a while.

:) I have PIV 2.4 Ghz,512 Mb DDR RAM(PC2700),GeForce 4200 Ti with 128 Mb video.I turn all settings to max(except unit details: I set it to high),max unit size,1024x768x16 resolution, all shadows and other options turned on.
And my performance is good enough to play almost all battles with no lag(but with 7000-men on the field there are some 1-4 seconds freeze problems).I think if I get 1Gb of Ram there will be no lag at all.:)

I have 256MB of RAM, 128MB Nvidia Geforce 4 MX 4000 and a AMD Athalon XP 1800+ Processor.

Pre-set: Speed (everything on lowest)
Unit Size: Normal

With that system you should be able to run just about any detail settings you want. I've got an FX-62 (overclocked equivalent, anyway), 2GB of RAM, and an X1900XTX, so my core rig is a little slower than yours with a bit better graphics card -- and I'm able to run EB at 1600x1200x32, all details maxed, and grass distance manually set to 300. Frickin' gorgeous. The only slowdowns come about with time accelerated and two fullstack armies on screen.

Well, i have the Alienware Area-51 5500 wich has :
-Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6600 2.40GHz 4MB Cache 1066MHz FSB
-Alienware® Approved Intel® 975X Motherboard
-2GB DDR2 Performance SDRAM at 667MHz - 2 x 1024MB
-Single Drive Configuration 160GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s 7,200 RPM w/ NCQ & 8MB Cache
-256MB Radeon® X1650XT
-AlienAdrenaline: Video Performance Optimizer
-High Definition 7.1 Audio - Standard

And may i say, its a damn monster. I got all settings high including shadows and the unit scale is in huge. I havent had any lag problems so far, i havent tried a 7000 units in the field though.

Found somewhere at the.Org that only [Grass] ,[Building detail] and [Unit shadows](for some systems) can have great effect on performance.Set you grass to low/off and building detail on medium and see the difference!
Also that strange [Effects detail] should be set to max, because then it performs better!

I have 2.4ghz C2D with 2GB RAM & X1900GT, I run 1920*1200 with 4*AA, 8*AF & everything maxed except Unit Detail & Grass Distance which I have on high rather than Max.
I find that in the big battles, this makes the most performance difference for minimal visible difference.

I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me with the problem I have been having with EB 0.8.

The problem is that I can't reload a saved game (genetic error: insufficient video memory)

This also happens when I am playing a campaign and enter battle mode. Once the battle is finished, the loading screen appears and then CTD and displays the same error message as above.

I'm not especially good with computers but my guess is that it has to do with my graphics card or my memory.

I have a Dell Inspiron 700m with an Intel Pentium M processor 1.8 GHz, 0.98 GB of RAM and Maximum Graphics Memoryof 64 MB on my Intel graphics card.

Anybody have any ideas
p.s. this also happened with EB0.74 sometimes

I have a monitor and a box with a bunch of stuff in it and it's all connected to a hole in the wall.

Having that knowledge, I run huge army sizes, medium graphics, and everything else on low.

Caesar17, a 64Mb generic Intel graphics card is likley your issue. I don't recall the min specs for RTW, but that's going to be close to if not below them I would think. Your bets bet is to buy yourself a more modern graphics card from one of the specialist makers (nVidia, ATi, Radeon, etc.)
If that's out of your budget, you <might> have some success with increasing your pagefile / virtual memory size and moving the pagefile off your primary physical hard drive onto a second one if that's an option. This allows your computer to use more of your hard drive as a substitute for memory, and putting it on a second drive means that substitue memory can be accessed without having to stop reading the data off your main drive.
Having said that, it'd be nice of me to explain how to do it, but it's been long enough since I did that I'm not sure I could write you good instructions from memory right now. A search through the Microsoft Knowledge Base (chuckle) for "virtual memory settings" or "pagefile size" might actually lead you to the walkthrough that I used to do mine.
