View Full Version : Please tell me I am not the only idiot to do this

If I have done this once, I've done it a dozen times---go to hit the financial display button on the campaign map tool bar and hit the turn button, which is right above it, instead.

I suddenly have that sinking feeling that not only did I really screw up, but probably also didn't save after winning several difficult battles, so I will be forced to fight them all over again.:wall:

Those two buttons are just too damn close together, and they somehow need to be idiot proofed in my case.

Cheers

I've done that a few times too. Luckily, I dont do saves ingame as a general habit so I only lose build/recruit que changes or movement of units on the map.

It sucks most for me when its the last turn to get a mission done and I have the stuff lined up to finish that mission and hit the wrong button lol.

Once or twice. :help:

dunno

I've done that several times, except it's when the close scroll button appears right above the hour glass. But luckily I'm a compulsive quick-saver and it never even enters my consciousness that I press ctrl+s every turn.

Several times. Bad layout? Why it's so easy to do I don't know, but I have to think before clicking, even now.

You can also just map some of those things to keyboard buttons.

I got:
-Financial Overview (F)
-Faction Overview (E)

Won't make any mistake with that :)

I've come close to doing it a few times but so far havent actually managed to do it. I try to save alot for just those sort of silly goofs.

My system isn't too stable so I save after every big battle and it's not such a biggie. However, I do click the end turn button accidentally quite a bit.

I did it like twice mainly confused about the position of the buttons. Once csot me a good army that was retrating for R&R, Rest and Retraining.

I do it most frequently when trying to hit the Check to close an info box.. which most frequently happens right at the beginning of the turn.... So I usually lose the entire turn. :(

+1.

I think I'll try the remap mentioned above because I will frequently be pondering moves and just idly go voer and -oops! Q#$%!#, there goes that turn

I'd have to say i've only done it once, after alot of playing.

The financial button has a pot of gold icon, the button is largish and centralised. While the next turn button is smaller, on the top section and to the right.

Seems ok to me.

No you aren't. I one campaign I did it about 10 times because I kept checking my cities and with a wonky mouse it kept moving south more than I wanted to and ended up clicking that stupid button nearly every time.:wall:

fortunately my new mouse doesn't do that.

It happens every once in a while. Don't see it as a big issue though...

Only once in Medieval, and it was towards the end of a campaign when the turns begin to blur anyway. I did it quite a few times in Rome, and alot of the times it actually landed me in pretty interesting situations :2thumbsup:

Oh man. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to check my finances, and instead heard the big "BOOM" and started wondering, "Why the hell are the Venetians taking their turn now?"

Ugh. All the friggin' time here. I too try to use the enter key but it does nothing. Those stupid things really are wayyy too close to eachother.

I've done that a few times, but if you have watch enemy turns switched on it actually autosaves it before doing the AI's turn, so press escape and load the autosave before the AI finishes it's go and you'll be back to where you were before you hit the button with everything you've already done that turn. I guess they had the foresight to see that one coming.

sapi

I do it all the time, but you can just reload the autosave (as long as you do so before your turn comes around again - it's moronic but the game only uses one autosave)

dopp

Quicksave often. If you hit the button by accident you can reload even as the AI is running through its turns.

If you hit the end turn by mistake, try pressing Esc key & load last autosave, I'm pretty sure that it loads the game back from when you pressed the end turn button, so you don't actually lose any move you made.

I didn't have any troubles with the end turn button, to be honest. However, when I booted RTW to play some EB, I was clicking like mad and going "Why won't the turn end?". After 20 clicks, I looked more closely. "Ow, end turn button is on the buttom of the screen! Woops."

Weeeell, you are in luck. You can set up your game to quicksave when you hit endturn. That will let you go back to just before you hit EndTurn.

Now a straightleg has helped the Old RedLeg Forward Observer!

Von Nanega, you don't even need to do that - it autosaves automatically at the end of each turn

I just did it.:wall:

I should have known after my last post I was cursed to do it soon. :laugh4: Luckily it didnt hurt me in any way and I'm playing 1 turn = 1 year so only lost one year's time.

I've done it about 5 times in one campaign.

Funny thing is, that in almost every other game (like Civ4) things like this happen all the time. But in MTW2 it never happened. But I am pretty sure, that after I read this topic, I surely will do it...:-) Yeah it is really difficult to be a moron:-)

uibalex
01-02-2007, 19:44
Yes i do this alot to luckily i quick save all the time so i only have to wait for it to load.

I dont remember this happening in RTW though so i wunder what has changed.

Before you clicked the status button, the one with family tree, diplomacy, the Roman Senate and all that, then click the finance update.

Ohhhh yes...
Many a time...

Because my PC is made from bits of old chicken wire and bakerlite, and tends to crash when you least want it to, so I've created two save folders;

"End of turn"
"Action"

I overwrite "End of turn" just before I click...Er.. End of turn, and overwrite "Action" whenever I'm gong to fight someone.

This way if one of the valves blow on my PC when the game is auto-saving or loading a battle, It wont mess up my campaign.

There is hope, however. I think I remember reading somewhere in the modding forums that the layout can be modified...

fortunately my new mouse doesn't do that.

Best Buy owes you a commision! After reading this, I left my frivolous work early so I could go home and get some important gaming done :beam: And once I started I noticed my mouse was floating. Decided to pop it open and clean the rollers and saw something I had never seen before, and having worked in a tech dept for a while that's quite a few systems. When I flipped it over, apparently I rest my hand in such a way that almost all the pressure is applied to lower right side which had worn down so badly that it could no longer lay flat on a mousepad. It was as if someone had taken a metal file to it. This might be a sign too much frantic gaming :idea2:

However I choose to see it as an opportunity to try a new mouse-and so far, haven't biffed the finance key-end turn key with the new one yet! :2thumbsup:
