View Full Version : What happened to .81?

It was going to be released any minute and 'days' several weeks ago. I've been holding off playing waiting for it to show up... Vacation is over officially tonight, and no sign of it! *snif*

Some persistent bugs, some delays due to real life, and then the holidays affecting the team members. Right now we're testing internally.

Believe me, we aren't happy either. The plan is to get this thing out ASAP.

One thing you learn with EB is that you never hold your breath. You should have just played .80 during your break, although it's completely understandable what your thought process was. Alas, now break is over and .80 wasn't even enjoyed as it should have been.

Yeah, I've played EB, but have not let myself get too terribly attached to any particular campaign, less the next day the patch come out and make me start a new one.

It`s the exact thing that happens to me too. :grin:

Anyways, this has been useful for me, since I`ve tried almost every faction on the game, in advance for a more stable campaign in 0.81. :grin:

Sorry guys, but it's just as blacksnail said. For a good laugh it was initially expected to be a patch released "after a couple of days" to fix a few issues that were discovered during the last compilation stages of 080. :laugh4: Or at least I saw that term thrown out once. :grin:

I'm out of here now for a few days and I do fully expect to see new lists of what we missed still in the bug reports section when I get back. (which means I am hoping it will be out for a couple of days at least by the time I'm back :grin:)

For tonight's math homework, EB fans, TA has left us with the following problem:

"Few" - "Couple" = ? :inquisitive:

Teasing, TA, enjoy your break. Somehow I'll manage not to gnaw my fingers off in anticipation. Just please do your damnedest to squash any AI turn CTD bugs. Everything else I can live with, it's a beta, as long as I can keep playing it.

PWNT! :=)

Yeah, I should have just played .80... but I got kinda into Mount and Blade after a recommendation from this board.

Hmm... a few is generally 3, a couple is generally 2, so 3 - 2 is usually about 1, and this was posted yesterday, which means .81 must be out today. Yeah!

But I won't take any bets.

Tellos Athenaios
01-03-2007, 02:39
Apparently:

"Few" - "Couple" = ?

With ? being equal to:
"misreading" + "setup" + "expectations" - "bets" = "misreadingsetupexpectations" > error
For:
You can't remove part of a string, if that particular part doesn't even exist within the string!

Therefore:
"Few" - "Couple" = error

Therefore:
It's no wonder that EB takes so long to get bugfree... :juggle:
Also: before the error pops up, it seems as if a setup based on misreadings is to be expected... :inquisitive:

Otherwise:
"Few" - "Couple" > error
For:
You can't remove part of a string, if that particular part doesn't even exist within the string!
Therefore:
It's no wonder that EB takes so long to get bugfree... :juggle:

Either way: Teleklos Archelaou teached us how bugs come into being.

Zalmoxis,

You know there will always be a "better tomorrow"... we should still enjoy what we have now. So I am tempted to say: come on, play 0.8, it already has got everything to give you a wonderful playing experience. Maybe play with another faction than the ONE you want to play with the full features, e.g. if you're a fan of Carthage play as the Gauls for the time being...

I just think we should not discard what we already have just because of what we may have soon!

Well, it's now tomorrow instead of merely today, aka yesterday, which means that few - couple != today (where today is in fact yesterday). There's still a chance that it equals tomorrow (which is in fact today), but I'm not very hopeful.

My recommendation to the EB folks is that they just forgo this whole 'testing' business in favor of writing bug-free code / scripts. It's much more efficient. :idea2:

I wonder if few - couple = fw - coupl ?

Wait, I know! If you assign numbers to each letter, aka a = 1, b = 2 then...

few = 34
couple = 72

So, few - couple = -38. Therefore, by this calcuation, EB .81 shipped right around Thanksgiving. Or maybe in -38 BCE? Hard to say.

No wait, I got it! It shipped in 1969!

This strange behaviour is caused by the abstinence from EB. To heal yourself go and play EB 0.8! Or wait EB 0.81, if the abstinence will not kill you...

01-04-2007, 21:56
Or assign few - couple as an iterator and thus index = few - couple = -38

while(!index)
{
index++;
}

assuming index is quantified as a day that means that EB 0.81 will be out Feb 12th... so ENJOY 0.8. And if you ask why not 2/11 with my current structure then you'll be banished from this forum to live a life of solitude on some flame war forum such as somethingawful.com

You guys have it all wrong.

Let us work this out:

Few - Couple = ?

So we minus and E from few since couple has one, and we get:

Fw - Coupl

Now fw has a double U (W), and since coupl has a single U, we minus that out and are left with:

Fu - Copl

So... we know what the meaning of "FU" is... and the minus sign is really a hypen...

But who is copl?

Why it is the Canadian Online Poker League! (http://www.copl.ca/)

Apparently, TA has been gambling a bit much, which is why he is out of town, and he is displaying his hatred of his addiction subtly...

...And Bunny may continue to take over the world!!!

Pode

Shut up TA. Seriously. I live in the US, we're dumb enough to do exactly that. As evidence, two years ago, concerned about the rapid rise of ecstasy use among young people (won't someone please think of the children!), one of our distinguished Congresscritters introduced a bill that would have classified bottled water and glowsticks as drug paraphenalia. Meaning you could be arrested for possession of EITHER. :wall: :thumbsdown: :inquisitive: Thank God / Goddess / gods / Reason / the ancestors it didn't pass, but still . . . :no:

Besides, EB features full frontal male nudity (worse than female nudity, don't ask why, it's not supposed to make sense), and you saw how much trouble GTA and Rockstar got into for a mod that featured CLOTHED consensual adult sex (modeled in less detail than the EB units).

So let's not call attention to EB's ban potential, shall we? Remember, Klein vs AT&T demonstrated that the NSA gets a copy of all this. <Hi guys, how's life in the data mines tonight?>

Sorry for the OT rant, that just triggered my "I want my Amendments back" mode. :furious3:

So do any of the team testing 0.81 want to drop us some teasers from their test campaigns?:yes:

Dear EB_Team,
While we are waiting for the patch 0.81, could somebody kindly inform us about it content (list of changes)?
And does somebody knows, what changes are to be applied by patch 0.82? =)

2. Indian elephants reskinned.

Respectfully Yours,

At this point the numbering isn't firmed up, so the next release might not actually show up as "0.82." It's too early to say.

As for 0.81, the primary focus hasn't changed:

a) fixed critical CTDs
b) added more graphics (ie "Operation Remove All Vanilla Peasants From Game")

There's some minor additional changes here and there, some critical recruitment changes, etc, but that's mostly it.

As we have stated from the initial mention of 0.81, the upcoming bug-fix patch is not going to focus on recruitment. There are some recruitment changes but less "refining Romani recruitment areas" and more "why the heck are Caetrati available in Baktria's home territory? Fix it!" Note that graphics and CTD prevention was the sole focus of 0.81. Do not expect major recruitment changes in 0.81.

I think it`s good enough for all of us, since graphic glitches were the chief bugs with 0.8, in addition to some isolated CTD issues (rebelling province CTD, Dariotum, Baktrion Hippeis, etc.).

But if the team squashed the reinforcement CTD, then you`re like the romanii after the 2nd punic war. Nothing can stop you now. :charge:

Johan made this quote for his patches for Paradox games. Paradox is beside Creative Assembly THE studio for strategy games and Johan ist their leading developer.

Those games are not very impressive in terms of graphics, but they have extremely interesting gameplay. There is also a very active community with lots of excellent mods. Their best titles if you dont know them are Europa Universalis series (III coming up 27. January), Hearts of Iron I and II (try out Historical Stony Road mod) and Victoria Revolutions (which after the addon actually got excellent).

Errrrrr :surprised:

I said "ad portas" quoting the expression "Hannibal ad portas", that`s what the romans said when Hannibal laid siege to Rome.

This was used as a formulae to say that something is about to arrive, that something is at the gates. In this case, 0.81 patch, but was pure wishful thinking... more based on blacksnail`s past tence when he talked about the patch ("graphics and CTD prevention was the sole focus of 0.81").

Well, he did go to Rome, in the hopes that the Roman armies that were sieging Capua would lift the siege and come to stop him. However the city closed it's doors and Hannibal had no choice but retreat and give up on the biggest of the italian cities that defected to him. But no, he didn't exactly siege it. :beam:

BTW, I've read the novel, and it's not that good. According to him, the Lybians did all the fighting, the Gauls and the Iberians were just there to get killed basically. He also has the war only last 5 years or so, when it went on for 17 and portrays Hannibal as a broken man after Cannae when almost no Italian ally defects to him. Oh well...back Robert Harris' Imperium.

EDIT: The numidians will hopefully be ready soon as far as I know.
