Ok, I need help from you guys. I dont want to ruin my game with nerfed gunpowder units. Is there any big changes with artillery or muskets? Should i install the patch and breath calm?

Not sure about gunpowder units but passive AI is only partially fixed and the cavalry charges are still broken(not working) for me. Quite frankly I'm not impressed by the patch.
To me the patch was essential to fix the "passive AI bug" in the sense of superior attacking AI melee troops just standing in range in front of my longbows to be killed. That was a game killer for my England campaign.
It also stopped the Timurid elephant CTD which is the only definite M2TW CTD that I have heard about.
There's more to be done, but I've heard no good reason to be afraid of the patch.
Yes, the patch is not a super-fix, but rather it makes the Passive AI a bit more bearable. It doesn't do much, except fix (most) passive AI (not including some sieges, apparently), adds Naval Invasions and one or two other nifty things. You can ignore the doomsday-proclamations by some people who love to scream to the heavens about how the patch has burnt down theirs house and ran over their dog; in actual fact it's alright, and makes a bit of an improvement to vanilla.
@Gustav: The patch that nerfs gunpowder units and arty is the next patch, Feb-March 2007. This patch addresses some rather serious problems so I suggest you get it.
If they nerf gunpowder in the next patch you could always mod them back I guess.

Forgive me, I'm being lazy.

February was mentioned but they didn't say anything specific.

I fail to see how reform bug = godlike.

Many parts of the patch are not working..there is still some passive AI, and in particular seige passive AI...is still present. Deployment in a city battle is better, but not 100% fixed. Pathfinding in cities is still terrible.
Cavalry still has problems, charging seems better, but they spread out even more this time when chasing down units..
The pumped up the AI on the campaign map..aka naval invasions etc, but it is still pretty thick...
I would put it on anyway..but the reality is it will be months before the game is really properly playable (if then)...and I have not even touched it in weeks....not once.
Medieval Total disappointment!
I highly recommend installing 1.1 patch. It's a great improvement. While some may think otherwise, I believe that the game is very much enjoyable in its current state. It's certainly playable to me and I wouldn't really call any of the bugs remaining truly game breaking.

Thanks for all replies. I really like gunpowder and wish it to be efficient. If they fix "reforming" and "stop firing when being hit" bugs it would be perfect. The other problems with the game needs fixing too of course. fixed deployment in cities sounds good. It almost made me throw out my comp through the window (deploying it in the street :furious3: )

Install the patch then, it helps with the reform bug some.
