I've just started playing Medieval 2. I have a question:

In Rome, can use the arrow keys to tweak unit formation (at least, that's how I remember it). In Medieval 2 the arrow keys control the camera and there doesn't appear to be a way to tweak unit formation.

I am aware I can right-click to set formation, but I find this awkward and I'm seldom happy with the results.

Anyway, was just wondering if there was something I was missing?

Thanks.

That's odd. I use the arrow keys to change the unit's facing with no problem.

(Clarification: the < and > keys.)

The , and . keys change the facing of a unit/formation. Just hold them down and release when you are happy with the formation facing.

Additionally, you may find some other keys useful:

- and = control unit width, thus again avoiding the dreaded right mouse button.

shift-commands are useful to influence grouped units. Here's what they do by default:

Shift-1 makes a single line with the units end-to-end.
Shift-2 makes a double line.
Shift-3 puts archers in front of the other units.
Shift-4 puts archers behind.
Shift-5 makes a double line, with cavalry at the flanks.
Shift-6 makes an offensive block.
Shift-7 makes a defensive block.
Shift-8 puts the units into a column.

I've found these especially useful to quickly get things the way I want during the setup phase of the battle.
