poll for {BHC}KingWarman888 idea.

 or .

this time, no :gah:

No. Our moderating staff does an excellent job. Elections would pick the most popular members, not necessarily the best people for the job.

Also, this forum is not our property, but the property of the administrators. We have no right to vote. If they tell us we can vote, OK (though I still disagree). If they say we cannot vote, that is perfectly fine with me as well.

Nah. I've always supported a benevolent dictatorship of the proletariat. ~D

But seriously: No, I would oppose such elections. And not because I'm an AM, by the way--I've always been against the idea (similar ideas have been proposed in the past when I was a regular member). Evil_Maniac From Mars has already said it pretty well:
Elections would pick the most popular members, not necessarily the best people for the job. That alone is reason enough. While I respect {BHC}KingWarman888's sentiment, I do believe that as a practical matter, it simply wouldn't work out very well.

Well, what about if the mod team selects some members?

Come on, give a try.

The Klingon is right. Popular contests do not a healthy forum make.

Why did you make a thread on the subject when you could have asked this question in the other thread? Two threads on the same subject is a good way to get this topic locked.
On the subject of the idea: I know for a fact that TosaInu is not stupid enough to go along with elections to choose admins. This is a benevolent dictatorship, not a democracy.
On the subject on the poll: Suggesting ideas is all right, but turning this into a popularity contest and trying to weasel in ideas on others is a slap in the face.

Seriously, as has been said, GeneralHankerchief got it - if it ain't broke, don't even consider trying to fix it

Is there a point to this thread (because of the other thread)?

I move that the respective topics be merged...

I prefer dictatorship under a good and fair Dutch ruler than democracy under a tyrant who will ban the democracy.

I agree, we Dutch can't do anything well, so it comes down to a democracy ~D

If any poll ever needed a GAH! option it should have been this one.I like my org as it is.:gah2:

I believe in voting. I think that the MODs should have the final say however.

If the mods have the final say then it is not a democracy, is it?

No, I voted against. It's one of the best forums I've ever seen (no flattering) and I think the elections will spoil it.    Probably only the admins, the mods and why not the Senior members should have a vote when a new mod is chosen. Well, probably the vote of a Senior memeber should be less than a vote of mod. The vote of a mod less than that of admin. But the final word should be that of our emperor.

Seig heil to the dictatorship we have at the .Org. It works well, and the .Org is one of the most peaceful forums i've ever been to - no juvenile idiocy, no stupid spats. It's all good.

Death to the democracy! Or at least, the idea of it.

Sorry to have to be the one to point this out, but those that have voted  are usually presumed to be younger than those that have posted no.

I'm sorry you brought that up too....

If someone wishes to be anonomous, please don't bring their supposed age into it.

While you can prove that someone acts like a 12 year old, you can't prove that they are one :laugh4:

Anyway, it's how someone acts, not their age that's important

Well, to be fair the poll should have been an anonymous one rather than a public one.

That is true; i'm just always very annoyed when age gets brought into an issue to explain someone's point of view or to make vague generalisations.

Were you able to match the ages of everyone who voted on both sides of the poll, i wouldn't be at all surprised to find an even split in terms of under 18 posters in numbers, if not proportion.
