I know I can use a diplomat to propose marriage for my king\heir but is there another way to force the issue with the king's other sons other that just waiting? I have had sons that never got married cause there were no proposals. This kind of comes into play early in the game when I need my royal family to procreate.

If you were a king, would you want your daughter to marry the prince of some country or his 5th brother in the line of sucession lol.

Though you do make a valid point.

I think you gotta wait. Don't worry though. Just conquer lots of territory and the adoptions come flooding in.

I am not talking about foreign princesses or adoptions (can you adopt females?) but the second son of my king went his whole life without being offered a "suitable wife" from his own country. I hope this cleared it up. Because even if he is not the faction heir, the royal line system that the game uses, the second kings son(s) might become a heir himself.

It doesn't really matter, does it? If he becomes an heir, you can get a wife for him. If he doesn't, then he's just like any other general and his sons are like any other general. Adoptions fill out your family tree nicely and you won't need to worry about losing the game due to your family dying out.

Exactly! Well put simply rely on adoptions, if you do get offered marige then take it but really there isnt a great need to marry off your 2nd in line

you can also use the following cheat -
give_trait this Handsome 3 and
give_trait this Fertile

Works wonders for the Family tree, or you can go the Man of the Hour and Adoptions route.

Bring up the general (or other family member like spy's, assissins, etc...) unit outside a city/castle to use "this" instead of the family members name.

The main reason that this is even an issue is because I wanted to try to keep the royal line as pure as I can. Trying to just marry off males and not marry off the females and princesses. If the heir only has daughters, I was hoping one of his brothers would have a son or two to continue the line. I hope everyone can understand my thinking now. Thanks.

UPDATE:

I gave up trying to keep my royal line pure. My "generals", either sons or brothers of the king and heir are not getting offers for marriage. To make things worse, a bunch of them got killed in the myriad of storms that plague Portugal. I had no heirs at one point. Adoptions, here I come. I wish I could kidnap some foreign princesses. That would be a cool feature!

Has anybody been able to find any kind of trigger that determines if/when marriage proposals are initiated?

I reckon you could but game only lets you do it to a certain degree. No marrying sisters and brothers. I think it has to be at least a certain number of degrees of separation though I haven't tried it yet.

How?

How do you get one of the lasses to propose marrige to somone from your own faction?

Everyone i've heard says it can't be done outside random chance.

You have to use a princess.

Have her selected, then mouseover the unit stack with the general you wish to propose to. It'll say "Potential suitors are in this army" or something to that effect. Right-click, choose your lucky general and away you (or rather they) go. :2thumbsup:

Tried that myself and it wouldn't work. It just moved her into the army.

Wil try again.

Maybe too closely related? Or was the general already married. Or just one of those unknown reasons that I am not a programmer to understand.

Check for the mouseover message first. You'll need the "Potential suitors" to show up, otherwise, what Von Nanega said is probably true.
