seireikhaan

Alright, sorry about the delay. I'm spare of question ideas atm, so someone else can ask the next question.

Marshal Murat
08-12-2007, 21:03
What are the mountain ranges that make up the Appalachian Mountains?

Louis VI the Fat
08-14-2007, 02:08
Would you believe that up until just now I had always assumed the Appalachian Mountains were made up of the Appalachian Mountains? :smash:

MilesGregarius
08-15-2007, 15:08
What are the mountain ranges that make up the Appalachian Mountains?

A complete list would be huge. Off the top of my head I can think of the Alleghenies, Blue Ridge, Berkshires, Taconics, and the Cumberland Mountains. There's plenty more.

MilesGregarius
09-02-2007, 06:30
Seeing as no one else has chimed in, I'll try to get this quiz restarted.

What's the highest mountain in Central America?

shlin28
09-02-2007, 13:16
Its a volcano I think, Volcan Tajumulco?

Marshal Murat
09-02-2007, 14:20
I think its Volcan Popocatepetl

shlin28

MilesGregarius
09-02-2007, 15:35
shlin28 is right on both counts. Take it away.

Marshal Murat
09-02-2007, 15:48
But I got you worried enough to look it up.
Muhahaha.
Thank you Franc.

shlin28
09-02-2007, 17:51
What is the highest mountain in South Africa?

Conradus
09-03-2007, 17:37

Sarmatian
09-04-2007, 00:52

Conradus
09-04-2007, 08:30
You're right Sarmatian, though you might have mentioned the name :p

Anyhow, your turn.

MilesGregarius
09-24-2007, 13:35
Sarmatian,

Are you going to post a question?

Warluster
09-24-2007, 22:45

MilesGregarius
09-28-2007, 18:55
No, I don't think he is. If someone else wants they canpost a question.

OK then, here's a softball to restart this thing:

What's the name of the river that flows through Bangkok?

Louis VI the Fat

MilesGregarius
09-29-2007, 02:50
It's all yours, ixidor.

Conradus
09-29-2007, 10:19

ixidor
09-29-2007, 11:29
What's stopping everyone from using Wikipedia to answer these questions?

Quite honestly, I don't think I know 80% of these questions, and I love Geography.

Yeah, i thought the same, yet i didn't try to do it since it would be fair i think. I actually knew the answer because i recently researched about Thailand.

Conradus, the answer is right.

Conradus
09-29-2007, 15:28
I don't have a fitting question now, so anyone who likes it may aks one.

Louis VI the Fat
09-30-2007, 02:26
Where can you find Nam prik, Gai Pad Khing and Som tam Thai?

seireikhaan
09-30-2007, 03:20
Thailand, of course!(Som tam Thai kinda gave it away:beam: )

Alright, where can you find Kazunoko and Kuri Kinton?

(hint, its along the same line of question as Louis')

Conradus
09-30-2007, 12:15
Japan?

seireikhaan
09-30-2007, 17:02
Indeed.

Conradus
10-01-2007, 19:03
What's the capital of Burma/Myanmar?

Craterus
10-01-2007, 19:49
Rangoon

Conradus
10-01-2007, 20:40
The official capital, not it's largest city Craterus, though it's correct enough I guess. They're still changing from Yangon to the other place.
Your turn then ;)

Craterus
10-01-2007, 21:32
Oh. Erm.

Where is the Historical Museum of Spaghetti located?

Conradus
10-01-2007, 21:50
Naples?

Craterus
10-01-2007, 22:19
No.

(sorry to be so blunt)

Craterus
10-03-2007, 21:17
Cmon, it's not that hard.

Cultured individuals such as yourselves should know all about such fine cuisine.

Csargo
10-03-2007, 21:28
Somewhere in Italy?

Craterus
10-03-2007, 21:31
He's cunningly narrowed it down... ~;)

Warluster
10-04-2007, 05:36
What's stopping everyone from using Wikipedia to answer these questions?

Nothing actually. Just if yiou feel you wish to, try to answere truthlly the first time, then *sigh* you may refer to wiki...

Lord Winter
10-04-2007, 06:16
Flourance?

Craterus
10-04-2007, 19:26
'Fraid not.

Sarmatian
10-06-2007, 22:06
Well, If I remember correctly, Marco Polo brought the recipe from China, so... Venice maybe?

Conradus
10-07-2007, 08:43
Since it's in Italy, it would only be normal if the museum is in Rome.

Craterus
10-07-2007, 14:01
Nope.

Conradus
10-07-2007, 17:42
Thought there was one in Rome though, or no that was a pasta museum.
Pontedassio?

Craterus
10-07-2007, 17:54

Conradus
10-08-2007, 21:44
What country was referred to in ancient times as Nubia?

Justiciar
10-08-2007, 23:12
None. No nation can trace a direct route back to Nubia, as far as I'm aware. You could say Sudan, methinks, but you'd be wrong.

Conradus
10-09-2007, 14:58
It was Sudan I was looking for. The 'Nubian' dynasty that ruled Egypt for some years came from what is now Sudan.

Justiciar
10-09-2007, 15:27
Fair do's.

Where can one find the Fairy Chimneys?

MilesGregarius
10-09-2007, 16:39

Justiciar
10-10-2007, 23:19
Quite right!

Mouzafphaerre
10-11-2007, 04:04
.
Which city was the last target of the victor of Manzikert and where is it located now?
.

The Wizard
10-11-2007, 16:52
Nicaea, now known as Iznik, to the east of Istanbul in Turkey?

Mouzafphaerre
10-12-2007, 17:43
.
Don't think he made it there (did he?) but in either case that's not the answer.

Tip: It's mentioned within the past week elsewhere at the ORG.
.

The Wizard
10-13-2007, 23:54
Ah, I get the gist of your question now, methinks. If I remember correctly Alp Arslan died while campaigning in the East, so that would be in... Central Asia?

Mouzafphaerre
10-15-2007, 17:58
.
Nope. Somewhere relatively much nearer to Malazgirt (Manzikert). ~:)
.

Mouzafphaerre
10-19-2007, 11:06

Come on people, not that difficult!

Mouzafphaerre

Please move on...

Sarmatian
10-26-2007, 02:05
Since nobody knew, you get to ask another question.

Mouzafphaerre
10-26-2007, 15:14
.
There's this place in the world, whose native language defines but two numbers: 1 and >1. Which is the place?
.

Tran
10-26-2007, 15:34
Do you mean the natives' language only recognize zero (0)?

Mouzafphaerre
10-26-2007, 15:42
.
No; it recognizes 1 (one) and >1 (greater than one) but nothing else.

Source: Britannica's sources. :inquisitive:
.

Tran
10-26-2007, 15:54
That's weird. But nevertheless, I will try to guess: São Tomé

Tristuskhan
10-27-2007, 01:04
Nunavut?

Mouzafphaerre
10-28-2007, 06:12
.
Neither.

Tip: A serie of islands in the Indian Ocean

Wikipedia states about the languages that:

Judging from the available sources, the [...] languages have only two cardinal numbers: one and two. However, they have at least six ordinal numbers. This gap in the vocabulary was remedied where necessary by the use of gesture.

which contradicts with Britannica's statement that they distinguished only one and greater than one.
.

Conradus
10-28-2007, 11:42
Andamans?

Mouzafphaerre
10-28-2007, 19:08
.

Your turn good sir.
.

Conradus
10-29-2007, 20:07
The name I'm looking for is both a city and an island, though the city isn't located on the isle.
The island was discovered by a famous explorer, though it doesn't bear its name. He claimed it for his country, yet another nation built a fort there, the only settlement of that nation in this now great country.
What is the name I'm looking for?

Mouzafphaerre
10-29-2007, 23:19
.
:dizzy: Any tips?
.

seireikhaan
10-30-2007, 05:00

Conradus
10-30-2007, 18:09
This large city lies to the west of both Southampton and Hispaniola, to the south of Southampton, but more to the norht than Hispaniola.

Hope that this narrows it down a bit.

Charge
10-30-2007, 20:37

In 1943, the final Axis positions in North Africa were eliminated. In a reference to a major battle that was won by the Soviets earlier in the year, the British began referring to the final stages of the North African campaign as this.

In Mexico, it won one of its greatest titles to fame: on April 30, 1863, at the Camerone Hacienda near Puebla, 3 officers and 62 legionnaires resisted 2,000 Mexicans. After a day of heroic fighting the last five survivors fixed bayonets and charged.
This battle, whose name adorns every Legion flag, remains the symbol of a mission carried out to the bitter end.

No. Come on, what famous Lucas franchise has a movie about the Holy Grail? And Nazis?

:furious3: Euros don't watch...uh...

The franchise is Indiana Jones (and the Last Crusade), and the last part of this movie was shoot in Petra, the ancient capital of Nabatea.

Nowaday it must be in Syria or Jordania. Dunno where it is supposed to be in the movie though, though I remember they talk about Turkey quite a lot throughout the movie.

Yes but at the end of the movie didn't they move it to the basement of the Smithsonian next to the arc of the covenant?

Look it up, it could be Fort Knox or some other place...

No, the Grail is lost, together with the hot german blond girl (who was quite likely into S&M and leather-oriented sex).

Why oh why did she have to die? :bigcry:

Yes. :smug::egypt:

That's totally not it. The Canyon of the Crescent Moon does not exist, and the scene was filmed in Petra, Jordania.

This is a geography quizz and not a movie quizz, so victory is mine. You Star Wars and other Georgelucazish nerds have it completely wrong. I shall be rewarded for my intimate knowledge of the ancient world, though I let Louis asks the next question, so he at least can have a taste of what victory's like.

If you do not agree to my command, I shall bring the case to the highest authorities. Gunbortionists such as Luious IV teh fit won't be allowed to take over the Org.

It is Las Lajas indeed. Hmm, I didn't think it was that easy.

Anywho, fairly straightforward question from me: What is the largest lake and lowest point in Australia?

Just a quick question: Have any of you guys ever made it far into the National Geography Bee. I won the school competition and narrowly made it to 10th place in the State Competition. Made a stupid mistake on a question I knew but I got nervous and blanked out.

Hay! This was not a hard question.

It is a source!

Does nothing spring to mind?

Sorry, there may be some controversy about this.

It is listed because it is farther from Three Forks than Brower's Spring is.

Red Rock Creek ends at the lakes of the same name...

Bump!

If this is too hard or confusing, let someone else ask a question.

It is too good of a thread to lay idle for so long.
