If you have ever played mafia, or if you have an interest in trying it, I am hosting a game in our Gameroom that needs lots of bodies -- pardon the pun -- for it to run in its ideal form. We all have a blast with these games, so please check it out.
Do not reply here -- this is just a recruiting thread -- head for the gameroom.
Thanks!

Testimonial:
I used to be a sucker, posting in the Backroom concerning all kinds of cyclic and meaningless stuff, like illegal immigrants, Israel/Palestine, Muslims, Iran/North Korea, etc... (Thank God I usually avoided the even worse sludge of "So and so is Congressman of some State" or "New President elected in some European country").
It took me a while (the length of which I am embarrassed to admit) to see that the minutes wasted on pointless conjecture and arguing really did not achieve anything in the way of changing minds (mine or others) or anything else, and what a useless waste of time it all was. The fact that the same core issues came up in thinly veneered new dresses didn't help.
I basically quit going to The Org for a while, seeing it so pointless and only checked the EB threads once in awhile.
Then Mafia came along. It is quite a fun game I tell ya. :2thumbsup:
There's arguing there too, but you just don't feel the frustration or futility that you feel here. Plus, everyone is happy at the end, win or lose!
Now most of my time at The Org is spent on these games (it has quite a high utility of happiness ).
Sure I still chirp in here or there in the Backroom, but I certainly try and avoid any long discussion (unless it is quite interesting like the long Atheism thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=73476)).
But Mafia is great all the time, and different hosts add different stuff to the game, keeping it fresh. There are a lot of colorful personalities there too. A very pleasant experience.
Bottom line: The Backroom is like crack; the Gameroom is like candy.

Four Backroomers who I've always eagerly pondered how they'd contribute in a mafia game, are in no specific order, Louis, Adrian, Watchman and Tribesy. You four come across as the type who might find such a game a little silly at first glance, but so did I and many others, but you might find yourself how surprisingly quickly these games become riveting. You four have all the qualities necessary for an intriguing bout. Argumentative, diplomatic, and insightful.
There's my humble request that you four and anyone else with a slight interest please come check out Seamus' new game, it looks like it'll be a blast, and if you hate it after a round or two, just suicide your way out and never trust my recommendations again.

I too have wondered how those folks would handle the performative ambiguity that is a mafia game. Why not give it a try?
These blokes, and any of your backroom brawlers, would be welcome....
:gah2: I am never mafia but i will play.

Could I ever withstand the soft seduction of your voice my lady, my siren?
Your wish, my temptress, is ever my command (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showpost.php?p=1381195&postcount=49). For your wish, mistress of my lust, decrees my actions as much as in the recluse of my sleepless dreams your beauty decrees my desires...

Oh thank heavens, I was afraid of how to break it to you that I'm taken already.....
Yes mafia games are very fun and challenging. It would be fun to see some of the people who contribute to the backroom in a game would be interesting to say the least.

School officials still investigating 'Mafia' (http://www.seacoastonline.com/news/rock/08042006/nhnews-r-ray-mafiafolo0804.html)
RAYMOND -- The "Mafia" game that was played at Iber Holmes Middle School in June has been a controversial issue in the community, especially among parents.
Some were angry that their fifth-grade children were playing a game involving two sides, Mafia and Townspeople, and that the former group picks someone to "kill" at night while a narrator explains it to the class in detail
To those who are concerned about the game's effects on children -- paranoia, nightmares and fear of sleep have been mentioned -- Davidoff replied: "It is a game with strong social dynamics, and it readily adapts to the level of the players; the game itself is just a form that players fill with content and argumentation. So basically we are talking about scaring ourselves with our own stories."
I dread to imagine what these parents would have made of the Wanax (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showpost.php?p=1321778&postcount=339).

Too late for me. Dungeons and Dragons as a lad destroyed me utterly as a person long before I'd ever heard of mafia. Far more "demonic" than the rock and roll that destroyed the baby boomers.:laugh4:
Seriously, though, in a world where people will devote effort to opposing the "Teletubbies," are you really surprised that folks would oppose this? Anything more controversial than Peter's incursion into the garden -- as written of by Ms. Potter -- will push someone's buttons.

Do my eyes deceive me?
Has the Don become a mere consigliere?

I thought it would be really confusing to have to write out posts as "Don Corloene the player or Don Corleone the role?".... "Don Corleone the role, I mean the guy.... you know, the loudmouth from the backroom who's always shooting his mouth off... that guy...".
This should make life easier for the duration of the game....
But I want all of you to remember... as I embrace this diminished role, I have helped all of you in your hours of need. All due respect shall be paid to me, and when the time comes, I expect you to honor me in some small way. Perhaps the day will never come when I need one of my favors repayed.... perhaps it will. But until then, accept this namechange as a small token of my love for the game on the occcassion of my wife's and my anniversery.
