and now exclusively playing EB. The only way I'll reinstall that 50 dollar waste of DVDs is when EB2 comes out.
Amazing how modders can take a so-so game (RTW) and rework it so masterfully(EB) even though they are unpaid and do this part-time.
Ah, another true believer! Welcome to the cult. :hippie:

I played half a campaign of M2TW, got bored with the lack of depth and territories, and came right back to EB.

This is why I haven't yet even purchased MTW2! I'm waiting for a good mod to come out (which is sufficiently worked on, so that will take some time yet) and by that time I hope I can get MTW2 with a price discount... But currently, this EB is the only game I'm playing at the moment (a part from Football manager then)
Yes, welcome to the cult of EB Edwardvs Primvs ~
Glad you like EB.

I guess it will take about 2 years at least before we see something really enjoyable like RTR or EB. So thats a lot of time to enjoy the hard work put into the rtw mods.
I played M2TW for a while 'til I realised I simply can't enjoy anything vanilla from CA since RTR. What RTR and EB has done to RTW is simply amazing and I can only hope it will be done to M2TW as well.

If it wasn't for Lands to Conquer mod, I would never have played M2TW. Now I'm playing Vanguard beta while I wait for EB 8.1. Don't figure I will play much M2TW ever again until EB2. I am afraid that a CA vanilla game will never really be playable again.

I hate MTW2, I really wanted to like it but I cant play it due to the fact that its so cartoon-like and the map is awful.

I wouldnt see the quality of M2TW so high that it could go as a compliment that you reinstalled it for playin EB. I stopped playing AE. See, thats a compliment!

Damn dp.
I agree, having gotten and played M2TW I was disappointed in the lack of depth in the campaign and the campaign map. However those battles are simply stunning to watch!:2thumbsup:

Hello, first post here.
Count me into the cult of those who uninstalled M2TW in favor of EB, though it was really more an issue of hard drive space than anything else. Given a choice between continuing my English campaign in M2 or reinstalling RTW to play EB .80, it was truly no contest.
That being said, I think M2 has leagues of potential waiting to be tapped by talented modders. I adore the lush sound design in particular as well as the nice new combat animations for the units. Compounded with the surprisingly admirable gore and grime "textures" that adorn fighting units, one gets a sense of the old world brutality and exhaustion suffered by those formations of ragged little pixel men.
What will EB, a mod that prides itself with stringent attention to historical detail be able to do with the M2 improvements? I can't wait to see.

oh, we're discussing it quite a bit in the internal forum, MTW2 has alot of great features we can use and change to suit our time period.'

hopefully EB2 does not take long to release since there is alot of modding potential in M2TW.

I wouldn't hold my breath. Besides who needs any of that once EB(1) is released? ~

Whats "hopefully"?
Rome came out 2004. Now we got 2007. Im no modder, but Ive heard that skinning is a lot more work with M2TW. If a really enjoyable total conversion of M2TW comes out before 2009 Ill be surprised. No Problem. We got EB. Soon AE. And hopfully 7.0. Thats enough game for a lifetime really.
Sorry if I misunderstand you here, but in simple terms what Edwardvs Primvs meant was:
I want EB2 to be released soon.
Hopefully is a word used when somebody is hoping for or wanting something:
For example: Hopefully my dad will be home for tea
For example: Hopefully I will get lots of presents at Christmas.
Sorry if I misunderstood you,
Avlvs

Well I know what it means. Of course he has the right to hope. Then the question is: what is "soon"?
I just pointed out that this probably is a matter of years and not months. So if "soon" here doesnt mean february 2008-2010, theres not that much hope.

Time enough to search myself a second-handed copy of M2TW. That way I save some money and be friendlier to the environment at once. Besides, if I find one, that's simply because its' previous owner did not want it anymore. Oh yeah, that way CA won't get any more money. I don't hate them, they honestly have a fantastic game-engine, but M2TW will simply be the first non-expansion game in the total war series that I will not buy. With all the available games on the market, I limit myself to buy only the onces from companies that deliver a good customer-care (f.e. Stardock) and have great quality games which have been worked on to achieve a high-standard and bugfree game with enough depth in int. Unfortunately, CA lacks the dedication that modders do put in RTW and M2TW.

I'm probably going to be shouted down for this, but....
I think that the EB team (once finished with EB) should make a more accurate medieval mod for M2TW, not another Roman one. I'd like to see a more advanced EB, yeah, but I'm so happy with it now, that if the modders shut down and we were left with 0.8, I'd still count myself fortunate as hell.
Besides, I've always wanted to rebuild the Roman Empire under the Byzantine banners, and succeed where so many others had failed. And after playing MTW and doing it easily in a single night (as opposed to the weeks of playing a single EB or EU2 campaign), I've really been fiending for a top-notch medieval mod for M2TW.
But first things first. Please finish EB. But don't kill yourselves doing it.
I bought the Total War Collections since it included MTW2 when I was out of town on business and found EB and didn't have my RTW CDs. Still havent even installed MTW2.
I even play it at work durring lunch and coffe breaks. And at 2am, and before work, and.....

Most of our members are not as interested (or interested at all in some cases) in the Medieval period, so EB will certainly not be working in that direction. EB2 will far surpass anything we could possibly do on RTW, mostly because of the new recruitment system in MTW2 and the ability to quite heavily mod the Ai stuff (I'm in particular thinking of the campaign Ai). This on its own (without all the other advancements in MTW2) makes it certain that EB will make it to the new engine at some point.

(unless Im behind on modding news) -- the issue of getting EB2 off the ground, really, will be once adding new models is cracked...or opened up.

Sure, but therell be more work with those new units.
Zaknafien
01-10-2007, 23:52
Exactly, as each unit will not only require versions for facftion, rebel, and mercenary types, but also 3-4 different versions of each skin within each unit :)

I wonder why CA is taking so long to release the needed mod tools. What are they gaining by waiting so long. Atari (NeverWinter Nights 2) and other companies release stuff like this before their games come out.

Perhaps it has a positive effect too - mods for rome may more likely be finished.

There are apparently problems with regard copyright - presumably CA used third party tools and altered them to suit their purposes. I don't think we can presume that CA are being gits about this delay; the modding capabilities of MTW2 are unprecedented in a TW game.
