The gauls are attacking with armies stuffed full of Lugoae (cheapo spearmen), and nothing else except the occasional slinger unit.

Do elite unit prices need to be dropped to the help the AI build more?

Well, maybe I spoke to soon. I killed 3800 despite being out number 2:1, so the AI promptly through a mixed, well balanced army at me, with only a few units of junk spearmen.

The initial army might have come from a province where there was nothing else to recruit. Sometimes AI fills up the settlement's garrison and keeps on recruiting, building a massive levy army.

Yeah, I think that's probably what happened.

It's too bad that the EB folks can't script the build queue.
