I know this has been asked before but I don't have time to browse through the whole forum so please help me :help:.

I've had my old Pentium 4 2.0 Ghz and GeForce 4 MX440B for almost five years now and I'm really, REALLY wanting an upgrade....

In an ideal world where I have all the money I want and I can buy anything, and I'd buy an E6600 Core 2 Duo and a GeForce 8800 GTX, but sadly, that isn't the case .

What's the BEST single core cpu out there that's not too expensive? And what card should I get? I was thinking along the lines of an Athlon64 and a GeForce 7 but there are still a lot to choose from... I'm looking for a balance between price and performance. If card A for example is twice as expensive as card B, but the performance difference is not that recognizable, then I'd still go for B....

Please help...... :sweatdrop:

Howdy Crian,

Is there a reason you want a single core CPU?

Video card options are wide open. Most of the new cards are excellent and it's hard to go wrong. Let us know your video card budget and then we can make a few suggestions.

Straight off the bat Crian the 7600 series Nvidia GPU is great bang for your buck.

An E6600 is only about 300 USD. It would be not a lot cheaper in the Intel range for any remaining high end single core processors on the market.

You could always go for one of the low end conroes - there' no need for a single core cpu and no reason to have one in this day and age
