As I near 2,000 posts at the org (many of them here) I wanted to let everyone know of the positives I’ve discovered in such a negatively charged environment. That and I thought: What the hell, why should the Frontroom get all the love? There are several people that have had a profound, positive impact on me. There are many more than I am listing but these are the ones that stick out at the moment.
Personally I think I’ve been a real ass at times and should have received A LOT more warnings than I have. I’ll just take the silly ones and double them to make myself feel better. Working here (not at the .org) can be frustrating, and dull, and I appreciate the outlet for my rage. Who is it that has the saying in their sig: Therapy helps but screaming obscenities is cheaper. True dat!
On with the list:
Louis the Fat: I don’t think a single person has so dramatically changed my view of a certain people (race, subspecies, etc) than he has changed my view of the French. Sure I’ve always had sneaking suspicions about the difference between Parisians and, well, the rest of the country. However the loud, obnoxious minority always makes the news and can affect our opinion of the whole. His reasonable and incredibly articulate posts have made me realize just how much in common our two people have.
BG: Everyone knows who I’m talking about. However since he’s gone green it isn’t wise to say his entire name (speak of the  and he will come). There’s so much good stuff that I can say about this man that I can’t fit it into a single post. I disagree with him on many of his more serious views but he’s just so damn charming that I let it go. I’m also hesitant to say too much good because he may be the Dr. Jekyll to Tribesman’s Mr. Hyde. It’s hard to find another explanation for the difference between the two. NEVER quibble over details with with an educated Irishman. :barrel:
Dariush: It’s said that Farsi is such an intricate language (I say convoluted) that those who grow up speaking it and learn English, carry that fine way of speaking over to their new language. If what I know about him is true, then that makes me a believer. He’s come up with some incredibly witty remarks to some of the more extreme anti-muslim/arab comments and they’re a pleasure to read.
LEN: :thrasher: :drummer: Our resident Turk. I know we have other members from that country but when I think of the good things about that country, I include him. We both greatly admire the Father of the Turks (maybe not in all ways similar) and I’m sure he sits comfortably in a saddle while he rides thru the sandstorm.
DivE: I just combined his two names. Friendly and outspoken member of the Backroom. Those regulars that don’t know about the good things he’s done here don’t deserve to be reminded. We should all know by now. Unfortunately, however, I think he fell asleep during OPSEC classes or took the word “simplify” too seriously.
Ok, side story: When I went thru MP training we went to the same place the Marines had their training. Out of, I don’t know, HUNDREDS of slides we had to endure without falling asleep I think the Marines had five!!! The instructor said that when he teaches Marines MP stuff, the key word is simplify. No kidding. But they always had the hottest women.
Great guy, I just wish he wouldn’t post so much about himself as people in our (former) occupations aren’t too popular.
What else? There are many I didn’t include but I wanted to open up the floor to everyone else.
Oh yes, and there’s the Dutch  ( :laugh4: ). God bless you all and I don’t know how you gave the Spanish so much hell but well done! Oh, and you have Amsterdam. I’ll include Belgians in this one as I may double their GNP by consuming all their fine…consumables.
Oh and on a COMPLETELY unrelated note. Um, I think I’m moving to Germany to work for a few years and may need a few friends. Just to show you that all is forgotten when it hits page 2, I’ll buy the drinks. :medievalcheers: PM if you want to take pity on a poor American and help him not stick his Texas sized foot in his mouth.
I suppose I should mention DevDave but he hasn’t posted in a while and I’m still not sure what to think of SFTS. Honorable mention: the Lemur, Don, Zorba :medievalcheers: :barrel: et al.
