View Full Version : Query - Why can't I build watchtowers?

Bug, or feature that I just don't understand?

In my current Moorish campaign, I own Tripoli. As this is an extremely large province, I want to build watchtowers along the road between Tripoli and Egypt so I don't have to constantly patrol for rebels. I have had my general roaming around the desert for 10 turns trying, but there is nowhere in the province that allows him to build a watchtower.

The same thing is also happening to me in Toulouse.

Am I missing something?

When I was playing a previous campaign as the Eqyptians, I had no problem building watchtowers all along the Tripoli road.

Also, in this campaign, I own Arguinn(sp?). For the first 5 or so turns I owned it, I was unable to build watchtowers there. Then, all of a sudden and for no apparent reason, I was able to build them.

I also noticed this same problem in RTW occasionally, but was never able to figure it out there either...

What gives?

Sounds like the bug where if there has been a natural disaster in a province the game no longer allows you to build watchtowers. I think it depends on if you saved/reloaded/loaded on the turn of the natural disaster.

I've had the same problem in the Jedda province. I can't find any spots in the region to build a tower. That provice is a plague on my economy, the spies and army it takes to keep it rebel free cost way more to maintain than it brings in... I'm thinking of gifting it.

I also remember an egypt campagin in RTW where I had the same problem. I don't think it has anything to do with disasters, I think it's the terrain specifically... it could have to do with desert territory, but I can build watchtowers in the deserts outside of Baghad, Mosul, Cairo & Alexandria just fine.

If anyone can shed light on this, it would be awesome.

It is a bug. Confirmed, already been reported in multiple threads.

Regarding terrain, you cannot build anything or cross "impassable" terrain, such as much of Jedda and the Saharan provinces.

EDIT: The bug is there, 100% sure of that.

I'm not sure what might be affecting the 2 cases outlined in this thread though.actually wait, maybe it's soemthing to do with the open desert ? Not sure.

Hmmm... the issue with Jedda can't just be impassable terrain, I can march my armies all over that province but can't build watchtowers. I don't recall a natural disaster there but who knows it very well could have happened.

Strangely, I had the same issue in RTW -- I've been under the impression that watchtowers just can't be built there.

Has anyone else ever built a watchtower in Jedda? This would confirm that I'm just being affected by the natural disaster bug.

I, as the Turks, had plenty of watchtowers built in Jedda, and all across North Africa. I didn't have a problem constructing them either, maybe only Islamic factions can build towers in desert terrain?

Nope, I could build watchtowers with Portugal in the desert.
