View Full Version : A Few Campaign Questions
I just have a few questions on campaigns in MTW 2. I play primarily multiplayer, but I have recently started playing campaign a decent amount. I am working on a French Campaign and doing fairly well on VH/VH. I was just wondering what building are needed to recruit Dismounted French archers and/or Scots Guards. These are two of the units that drew me to the French and I would really like to use them. I know they are most likely on the tech tree that comes with the game, but that is lost somewhere in random clutter around my computer.
My second question is what are the benefits of fighting a night? I know this was a feature introduced in Barbarian Invasion, but I hardly played any campaign on BI. I have two or three generals that are night fighters and I have used it a few times, but I dont see any major difference. Although I did notice a change in the moral bar to my favor when using it.
So if you guys could help out, that would be great and sorry if these are common knowledge questions. :help:
I can't answer the first one right now, but Night Fighting is sweet. You get a slight command bonus, and cut the enemy off from all reinforcements. Use it to pick apart multiple enemy stacks, one at a time.

The French can train their Scots Guard unit once they obtain a Huge city, so generally you can train them as soon as you build a Huge Stone Wall in a large city ( never a castle ) that then transfers that to a Huge City.. then wallah! you have your prized archers that are ready to grind your enemies! :burnout:
Now from what I know otherwise though... the French elite cross-bow unit, the Adventuriers, can only be recruited in castles ( don't remember which level of castle ) once you have built a Marksman's Range building..
other than that, there are no other super supreme French foot archers worth mentioning now... But Hey! I hope this answers the rest of your question! :laugh4:

Another feature of fighting at night is when you attack, and the enemy has multiple stacks it is very likely that the other stacks can't fight at night and you will face only the first stack. I have used this to destroy multiple large stacks one at a time in battle, during only one turn.

I am pretty sure that in the campaign the french cant recruit the dismounted archers even though they could be used in multiplayer
Best way to see which which buildings produce which units is to open the building browser.
Alright thanks for the help guys. I guess I didnt think of looking at walls to produce them. Although I would be disappointed if what xdeathfire says is true and dismounted archers are not recruitable. Is that correct?

Ever wonder why Scotland doesn't have Scots Guard??
In the campaign, only Mounted French Archers are available, the dismounted variety is MP only (most likely balance reasons). The French do have the Adventurie (sp?) unit from castle ranges. Similar in stats.
