View Full Version : Mongolians for ever

I have just run into a very strange situation.

My large city (large stone wall, balista towers) has been sieged and attacked by 2 full Mongolian stacks. My defenders were a general, lots of spear militia, and 2 units of foot knights.

During the battle, my towers and archers burned/destroyed 2 enemy rams and siege tower, and the only thing left was 1 set of ladders. However mongolian infantry has been beaten by foot knights (no suprise) and all that was left was Mongolian cavalry. And here is the problem. They cant enter the city, and I am not stupid enough to leave it. I have been playing with time limit off, and Mongolians just sat there, doing nothing. After long wait (maybe sth will happen) I was forced to exit the battle which resulted in a defeat.

God damn the Mongolians, even time is on their side.

Hmm...

I wonder what effect hitting 'esc' and choosing 'exit battle' would have in a case like that?

I did press 'esc' and 'exit battle'. The effect was my defeat and loss of a city.

Apologies, I read what I thought was there not what was.

Thought you meant exited as in to go out and fight them.

That frustration, right there, is one of the bigger reasons why I chose to always have the time hourglass turned on in my battles...

Alatien, that is the exact same thing that happened to me when I first fough the Mongols. Now I will never play a battle again without the timelimit on.

Are you sure that all infantry units have been annihilated??

In case they were merely routed, they may be regrouping outside your fov. Alternatively the AI may be waiting for them to rout completely and to then exit the battlefield.

Usually under the circumstances posted orignally, once all infantry units have exited the battlefield, the AI waits for a period of 3-5 minutes (real time) before withdrawing . So in your case it may be so that you exited the battle before the AI could initiate its withdrawal.

Could you please define a long wait? one minute, one and a half minutes??

make sure you run some units outise the city (they don't have to fight), watch the door close then run back in, and watch the door close and that should make it realise its a successful or no score draw sally.

Hm, I was under the impression that a siege battle would end if all siege equipment was destroyed with the attackers still outside the city. Is it possible to destroy ladders?

Other than that:

Turn the time limit back on; it really does give plenty of time to fight battles.
Lure the attackers close to your walls by launching brief sorties with cavalry. That should give you a chance to kill the rest of them.

Same here, and also the occasional mountain terrain map with no clear path to the enemy.

i did the same after a siege too... i figured that i could win by just holding out long enough... because i save before battles i just exited and refought it with the timelimit on... and i won
