Good evening, y'all.
I am new to this board, so if this question has already been asked, and resolved, my sincere apologies.
I have RTW gold edition, patched up to 1.5, and have installed EB08, but upon starting it, I get to the loading screen, and eventually I will see the following error:
"Failed to open Sound database"
After clicking on the ok button from the above messagebox, I will see another error:
"Script error in data/descr_sounds_units_ambient.txt at lien 6142, column 85.
Mount type "Crested heavy horse not found"
I will greatly appreciate any ideas.
Cheers

Hi,
I am still having this problem, and this is preventing me from going any further then the load screen.
Any ideas?

I hate to say it, but that greatly sounds like a faulty download. Like some files didn't make it or were corrupted in transit. Someone else might have a better suggestion, but my first inclination is to think trying again to download the 080 exe would be the most likely way to fix it.
I'm not using Gold though - I don't know how many of our members are. But I just don't think that I've seen that error message anywhere before.

Okay, I have uninstalled RTW (gold), and installed it again. I then re-installed Eb as well.
Now I am getting passed the load screen, and I can select the Imperial Campaign, but the moment I click on the continue button, I get CTD.
Any ideas.
Cheers.

That was exactly what I got!!!
Same problem, look in my RTWgold thread.
Surely there must be a problem with EB and RTWgold?
Bigsteve just checking, what graphics card do you have?

Mediolanicus,
Thanks for your reply.
You caught me a bit off guard with the graphics card question, and I will double check tonight after work, but if memory serves me correct it is an ATI Radeon X1900 GT pro 256MB card.
I had RTR working before uninstalling RTW, but alas now RTR is not working.
Maybe I should just uninstall everything again tonight, and start fresh?

I play RTR now since I also got a constant CTD with EB, even after 3 complete redownloads and installations. The game works fine, but isn't as good as I expect EB to be.
The reason I asked about the graphics card is because there was some indications my graphical memory (or whatever that is in English) couldn't cope with EB.
I have an ATI radeon 9200.
Could it have something to do with ATI radeon?

YES!
I uninstalled everything, and then started installing again as follows:
RTW
RTW patch
BI
BI patch
EB
I was able to get in, without crashes. The map look great, and I will start some series playtime soon.

Maybe a complete uninstall and starting fresh is the answer.
I even have SPQR working as well now.
Will try RTR now.

Very glad to hear you guys got that worked out. It seems like we go around telling everyone who has a problem "it's probably a faulty install or corrupted download", and sometimes we have doubts ourselves on it, but I'm very glad you got it to work now. :2thumbsup:

Good to hear that!
You have more luck than I have (in games, I just got a 18/20 for an exam in lawschool, that's luck too)
I shall give it another try with 0.81
Or when I grow tired of RTR (which does work from the first install...)

If the download is messed up in transit, or if the build it is installed upon isn't exactly what it should be, then it doesn't matter what mod it is - it won't work.

Yep, that make sense.
After starting from a clean page, all my mods is working.

I've redownloaded EB 3 times from a different location and installed it 5 times, each time on a fresh installation of RTW Gold.
That is exactly what it should be. And still I got a CTD in the main menu each time.

"Script error in data/descr_sounds_units_ambient.txt at lien 6142, column 85.
Mount type "Crested heavy horse not found"This is an impossible message to get. We have no "Crested heavy horse" or any mention to it in the files. So, therefore, you must have old files belonging to another mod somewhere in the RTW folders. I know you have installed it fresh several times, but there is no other explanation to this occurrence.

Agreed,
After starting fresh, all the problems is gone, and I have multiple mods working.
I love EB, and I would like to thank y'all for the very nice work done!

All the files were where they ought to be and the the game just crashed without any error on main menu.
I got the screen with Europa Barbarorum, the map and faction banners while loading (so the game must have been installed correctly), but once on titel screen... The first 3 times a CTD when I tried to click anything and afterwards it just crashed on it's own there...
You could try to install the BI 1.6 patch, as RTW Gold is known to be version 1.4 for RTW after you install BI. I had this problem when I first tried to play EB, yet I remembered when I was having trouble installing RTRPE when I was told about the version difference.
Probably not what the problem is, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Were all three of those files exactly the same size (those three downloaded files)? That might tell you if there is a problem with your downloading of them.

It's RTW gold on dvd, so BI installs simultaniously, thus it's unlikely to be that, but thanks anyway!
and @teleklos : yes, all three ~387mb if remember correctly...

It is a little difficult for us to diagnose problems with RTW Gold discs. It's because I think almost all EB members are running the game off the old RTW vanilla discs. Not to say it won't work, because lots of people are running it on RTW gold, but it's a little harder for some of us old timers to diagnose these problems when they happen with the gold discs.

Yeah I understand... It's already hard enough to make such a mod, if you have to perfect it for every single version of the game that would be really over the top.
Should have bought RTW earlier! :p
