New to this forum but excited to join the community. Simply put EB blew me away.

I decided to return to Rome...I can't help feeling disappointed about Medieval II. I've played all the games since the beginning of the series but MII doesn't have the same kind of addictive game play. The two year turns take role-playing right out of the game.... And the whole thing just doesn't feel as epic and finished as Rome.

On a whim, after surveying all the available mods for Rome I decided to try EB. WOW! It's amazing...Balanced, Challenging, with fantastic factions. What a great idea to create three tribes in Gaul. I just got through reading Julius Ceasars Biography and it's truly awesome to see some of the Gaulish tribes with appropriate character names to boot. The skins are amazing. The battles are much better. The four season turns and new traits make the game truly epic. I can't believe that it still plays so balanced after all the changes.

Thank you to everyone responsible for this mod. It breathes new life into the game. It's really what Rome should have been. Great job and obviously a labour of love...

Just out of curiousity, am I the only one here that thinks Rome is better than MII? It feels....Unfinished. Maybe it will be better with further patches. I hate how most of the units just stand around while a few guys fight. How did that get through beta?

There's no doubt in my mind that EB improves on what was already great. Are any of you Eb guys working on a port for MII? Would love to see what you do with it. I'm duly impressed. Sorry to be such a fan boy but I was really shocked when EB played this well. Again, Thanks for this Mod..

Vanilla Rome? No way. Rome with EB and/or RTRPE. Hell, yes!

As for the unfinished feeling... i dont think a game developer (for a mass market, that is) can afford the amount of time and staff to put in all the details a motivated mod team can. There are some exceptions (Battlefront.com/Combat Mission Series and the devs of EU II and Hearts of Iron) but these are made for niche market and therefore simply have to be very detailed and accurate as they have a different audience (no 133t kiddies ~D).

Edit: Oh, and welcome to the .org, Xtiaan72

One of the things, that EB stands for, and in which I take particular pride is the fact that we consider all factions equally good.

I acknowledge the fact that most people will play Romani, and respect that, but in no way are the other factions, Romani fodder. They are as fleshed out and real as we can make them. It is true that some factions are more "worked" than others, but we are trying to bring them all up to a standard.

The true beauty of EB is the fact that each faction looks, feels and plays different. Teleklos has done wonders on that department.

So my advice is, play a completely different faction than the one you are used to. Hayasdan, Pahlavi, etc. Even Saka (which will be much better in time).

Then play Hellenic factions, then Qarthadastim, Even sweboz. That is the richness of EB, its splendor.

And finally... Ambakaro Epones!

Hi and welcome,
I'm glad you love EB. Another convert has now entered the temple that is the grand modification Europa Barbarorum! Cheers!

... Even sweboz...

I played a sweboz campaign last weekend and have to say it was a really good experience. Totally different from my previous game as Hayasdan. With them I always felt like I was part of the wider civilised world, with the seleukids, ptolies and later epirots and greeks. With the sweboz I truely felt like I was playing an isolated, barbarian tribe out on the fringes of the known world, quietly uniting my people, oblivious to the civilized world beyond... Until the romans shattered my illusions by marching over the alps...
In battle they are pretty different too, I had to develop a whole new set of tactics to play them effectively. EB never ceases to amaze and entrall me...

If you don't get a "wow" experience the first time you play Europa Barbarorum, you're blind and deaf. :viking:

It's really something special. I'm playing Romani at the moment to get a feel for the game. I'm amazed at how different it plays. It really "feels" like a whole new game. I tried RTR but overall I have to say that I find EB more immersive. I'm actually going to start my campaign over again because from studying the guides I think I'm getting a better idea of how to use and develop my family members.

I'm really impressed with the skins. They have really given new life to the battles for me and in my opinion they are better than RTR.

I find myself setting up my legions like a Roman General might. It's actually almost silly how much joy I get watching my legions advance in battle formation.
The battles are much more interesting by the way, can't use the cake walk tactics I used to use.....Thank god......urrrrr....You guys.

But most impressive is how the reworked campaign works. The four season turns, the slower build times and the limited resources to build up a military. It makes for some really interesting guns or butter situations. I find myself making decisions I never would have made in Vanilla. I actually was about to build a public building in one of Rome's nieboring provinces but cancelled it and built it in Rome instead......Just because it seemed improper to make a building there that didn't already exist in Rome.... I actually built it "For the Glory of Rome"!!!

I can't wait to see what else will be in the updates. I'm in guys.....I'm definately in.

Tell your friends, especially if they are interested in the genre of games or the period! If you are a non native English speaker, and you really enjoy it, post on it in a non-english forum. We need all the word-of-mouth we can get to introduce it to more people. Thanks! :2thumbsup:

It's only going to get tougher in the next build, we made money a bit too easy to come by in .8 and we've done our best to clamp down quite a bit for the next build.

Well, I suppose there is always "Rome" for improvement. But seriously, compared to Vanilla (where you can easily have 100,000 Denari by turn 40) I'd say it works pretty well already.

I've had 100,000 Mnai in EB plenty of times, it doesn't go very far though...

Well, this mod has taken more then a hundred (over its history, a couple hundred maybe?) people more than two years to make. It should be a massive effort. Glad you like it. Or should I say "Thank you, thank you very much!"

EB is truely a work of wonder. The only complaint I have is the fact that I find it impossible to go back to any other mods!!! :laugh4:

Well done, indeed!

Indeed EB is truly amazing work and to think....it's not even finished yet.
I received MTW2 as a gift for Christmas and have yet to even take it out
of it's packaging and great mods like EB and perhaps one or two others are
directly responsible for that.

I'm a newbie to the forum as well, though I have been playing EB for about 6 months now. It truly is the greatest game I have ever played. My favorite game used to be Rome TW, but you guys have improved it 1000%. I'm a bit of a history buff and I love the amount of time and detail that has gone into EB in an effort to make it as historically accurate as possible. Right now it's great, but I cannot wait for the finished product.

THANK YOU

I didn't really when I first played it back with 0.74, mostly because the frequent graphical bugs and CTDs kind of took some of that feeling away for me, but with the recent release of 0.8, I immediately saw huge improvements, particularly the graphical and musical departments.

The music is truly fantastic; one of the best video game scores of all time, I think.

Great work, EB.

EB is a truly wonderful experience. I always liked Pontos, even in Vanilla, but I never felt very immersed. The units were pretty generic, but I liked the feel of a Persia-meets-Hellas faction trying to eke out an existence in the shadow of the gargantuan Seleukid empire. Every faction I have played(well, aside from the Saka, but they're quite incomplete) has been a blast...

Speaking of Pontos, it still doesn't have a spy, get to work slackers!:whip: :laugh4:

I have been a fanatical follower of RTR since day one. With the release of 6, I didn't think it could get any better. Then with the release of RTRPE and Extended realism MOD i do belive I died and went to heaven.

However, the experiance of EB after all that is rather like, first having an amzing Sticky Pudding, then being served a Cheescake/Gatue from my local French Caffe.

MMM, cool, smooth and delightfully thought provoking.

yeah im re-installing eb right now, I gotta admit it is a fun game and much better than RTW, the last time I played it I was playing as coinon hellionon (how ever its spelled) and since the macedonians were such a challange I decided to keep to the islands of crete rhodes and cyprus (I captured it from the ptolomics) and I eventually captured one of their more rich but less defended inner cities with my small force of hoplites, all I got to say is it was fun.

:2thumbsup: This is absolutely the best mod I've ever played. I almost can't believe I haven't been tempted once to play MTW2 since I downloaded this a few days ago. Just got through much of a practice campaign as the Sweboz, I'm going to give the Casse a try now. :viking:
