it seems that i cant change my heir like in RTW... is that supposed to be so?
if not... how can i change my heir?

You can't do this. There was some discussion about it earlier, when the game first came out. IIRC the consensus was that while it's annoying, it's more-or-less realistic since bloodlines and seniority of siblings were followed more closely for succession during this period, compared to the RTW period when it was more common to adopt generals and other outsiders into your family.
You can still manipulate this by killing off an heir. Send him out solo against a large rebel stack, or out to sea in a sacrificial boat looking for pirates. So that's one way to get around it, and I've done that a couple of times.
Eventually I gave up caring much about the family tree because it's still pretty buggy. New generals aren't brought into the tree when a princess successfully proposes marriage, and at one point I had a faction leader with a father who was still alive! At that point I just gave up, and let the tree do its thing. I focus more now on having a good set of field generals, and don't even think much about developments in the royal family. Maybe CA will clean this up in a future patch.

i didnt have problems with the line... i now have one dead faction leader... on alive leader, 2 live married in faction leaders from france and byzantium and one heir... but the heir is married so i want a new heir that is unmarried to marry him to a french princess... but alright... if it cant be done... ill drown my general...
