Hi all,
Something I've noticed since RTW and still in M2TW is that sometimes when you cahse a routing unit, very rarely one or more of your pursuing cavalry will suddenly lose men. Totally out of nowhere and usually from among those further away from the routers.
Is there a chance to fall off a horse and die while pursuing or what?
I mean in RTW the routers would sometimes still strike around em while routing (not in fighting to death mode btw) buit haven't seen this in M2TW but still same problem.

I noticed this as well, and had assumed it was the routers fighting back as my cavalry engaged them. I've not observed (too much chaos) this for my units that are nowhere near routing units.
I think it's still the routers striking back at the horsemen.
The other thing to be aware of (although I'm sure you are) is how absurdly spread out your units can get. The units taking losses nowhere near the routers could have 2 guys in the routers with the other 30 miles away. Those two get killed and it looks like the unit was nowhere near anyone.
I've noticed units that have backed off still in combat, although when you check it's because 3 guys are left behind and the rest are safely away.
I'd go with the router idea. even if it's not true I can justify it to myself...

it would be kinda neat like when foot soldiers or cavalry get exhausted if you keep pushing them men start dying of stroke :D
I'd suspect it was friendly fire. Don't think routers fight back.

It happens when pursuers get in charge mode, it seems to trigger some anti-charge attribute in the routed unit.
People died chasing routers in MTW 1 as well. I figure, like other people have suggested, that it's the routers fighting back. Just because they are running away doesn't mean they won't stop and fight some nutter on a horse trying to skewer them!

Perhaps it's just a variable CA put in there to account for mishaps. Like the chasers running into trees and what not :beam:
I think that it could be one of three things.
1. As mentioned, people die in a charge automatically (even if the enemy don't fight back) so cavalry will still die if you allow them to charge when mopping up routers.
2. Sometimes men in a unit get stuck and don't disengage from combat with the rest of the unit; combine this with the huge lag in updating the numbers on the unit cards and you can have casualties in the middle of nowhere.
3. Friendly missile fire :wall:
