Did you set your size to huge on the video options?

in the previous post i said "normal" i have it on large. i just increased the unit size to huge.....when i right click the unit size for triarii is 162.. but after building it i get 42 as the unit size.. same as in -large size- same goes for all other units.... unit size in info screen goes up, but after i build it, the unit size is half the large

I think the readout on the unit shows the unit size you have it set for, where as the actual unit size is where you had your unit size when you started your particular campaign.

you must be right. i`ve just restarted the campaign as large and the unit size appears correctly now. i guess unit size cannot be changed after the start of a campaign. i thought it could be.

You can change unit size during the course of a game, I think. You need Romesage. However, I'm not sure where to find a copy, ogre.net might still have it, but last time I tried to link to it, there was nothing.

How do you change unit size? I seem to have forgotten. What size is recommendable for 0.81?

In the game menu. Go to Options-Video Settings. If it isn't available as an option you might have to choose Custom settings or check the Advanced Settings box. This should show all video settings including the unit size.

EB is optimised for VH Campaign with M battle difficulty and Large unit size.

Thank you! Time to restart my roman campaign for the third time in other words. This time it will be right.

Unit size is a matter of opinion. I don't think I've ever seen a recomended unit size for EB.

We even have a fairly complicated system that tracks the Unit Size being used by the player that is then employed by the traits/scripts. We even had the remaining bugs in it fixed for the latest patch (thanks Tellos!)

I believe most EB devs play on HUGE but that may be a strain on your comp.

I play on Unit size 100, (changable in the RTW/EB/Prefrences/prefrences.txt) its a good number and doesn't suffer from much pathfinding issues in settlements. plus its only 20 more from large so it doesn't hurt performance as much as huge.

@Einherjer: sounds like you didn't change the EB preferences, but the RTW Vanilla preferences. Look in the prefernces.txt in the \EB\preferences folder, and make your changes there. Another possibbility is this one: editing unit size settings is not save game compatible - to make the changes show up you need to start a fresh campaign. Something you may not have done, hence your confusion.

hey i've had a similar problem
when i recruit some units from a settlement it shows
their correct number in the recruitment button
but then it shows a number halfed on the unit card once recruited
it happened a few times but not all the time so i didnt bother saying anything since i saw this topic, its a bug right?

Custom made Unit Size settings mess up with game balancement I'm afraid, because the number of scripted bonuses is limitted to what you can generate with standard RTW settings.

You probably changed the unit size then loaded a game started prior to your change. Stuff like this happens if you do that. You have to start a new campaign to actually get the new unit sizes.

So it wouldn't be advisable to custom-set the unit size, then? I've been playing on 120, because huge slows down the game too much but large isn't as fun.. Haven't had any noticeable problems in my Aedui campaign so far, though I wouldn't know one if it jumped up and smacked me in the face. What exactly do custom-made unit size settings affect?

Does this have something to do with traits? I've been using unit size 100, for the same reason as the above poster. Could you explain what it would conflict with?
Thanks

Briefly:
You set the unit scale. This has an impact on the size of all armed forces, throughout the map. The CS calculate's the GarissontoPopultation ratio of a certain settlement depending on what faction you are. This value triggers a couple of other traits and variables, which in turn affect the size of the scripted population bonuses the AI receives for each settlement every time it recruits a unit.

Possible results from messing with it, without entering your own "unit scale class" in the CS:
So let's say your units are in fact pretty large, but the ratio falls within the limits that affect a relatively low bonus: then you'll find that the AI is running out of population relatively quick. On the other hand: you lowered your unit size a little, but the ratio remains within the relatively large bonus area; you may find the AI in control of all hughe cities when you have yet to see your first.

Ah well, I haven't knoticed anything too weird regarding population sizes of ai factions, but I may go back to plain large later, but I promise not to spam regarding issues, I play on bi.exe anyways so I'm barred from bug reports and what not anyways. :laugh4:

i wish in the future they could figure out a way to downsize the actual size of the graphics
but have realistic amounts of men i.e 50,000 instead 2000

aahhh :inquisitive:
