View Full Version : Help: Ambush at River Crossing?

I'm trying to fight off the Timurids, and I've got them boxed into a nice corner where they'll need to attack me at a river crossing.
However, my General at the river crossing is "ambushing", inexplicably. This disconcerting because I'd rather be attacked at a river crossing than have to ambush their army (my stack is artillery heavy and weak on calvary.) The worst part though is that after I win the ambush battle (where I'm attacked) my general moves forward off of the river crossing, only to get slaughtered by the 3 other Timurid stacks.
Anyone know what is going on, and how I can get him out of ambush mode? I've fought anothre battle with a different general in the same exact spot, and he definitely fought a defensive battle at the crossing.
Also, I have an image saved here, but can't figure out how to upload it.

see if there's a bare batch without trees? I've only had ambushes when a general/captain is in a forest on the world map

when you want a river crossing battle, either your army or your opponent's army must be directly on the bridge or river ford. If your general is in ambush mode, then your army is probably not on the bridge but in a forest beside the bridge. Also do not attack when your army is on the bridge otherwise you get that move forward thing. Let them come to you.

Here's a screen shot of the dilemna I'm referring to. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/133/365439266_ed79ed149d_m.jpg
I can't explain it. Two turns before I fought a defensive battle at the same spot on the map with a different general. As you can see, the crossing he's located in doesn't have any trees in it...
Any suggestions would be appreciated... I'd really like to fight these Timurids at the river, and I should be able to! Unfortunately, I can't unstick this character with the character_reset command, unless someone can tell me what name I should use for "Sultan Shaykh the Cunning".

Yep. He is directly in the center of the crossing (no bridge at this part of the river, but he's straddling it... in the "crouched" ambush position!!)
Could this be a bug?

Can you enlarge the pic. Its too small to see properly. Anyway what happens if you leave him there? Do the Timurids attack you? If they don't then take the free turn to move him in and out again. Or maybe your general has a super ambusher trait(joking) that allows him to ambush anywhere on the map.

That could be awsome
Sultan Sheik the Uber Ambusher!

Super Ambusher Trait, LOL!
I think I figured out what happened, and I think it's a bug. In the location on the map behind and to the left of the river crossing there is a set of trees. If I have another stack there, in ambush mode, when I move the general onto the river crossing, he gets set in ambush mode too. If the neighboring stack is one spot to the left where there are no trees, he doesn't get to ambush.
I figured this out because I was finally able to get the character_reset command to work for my faction leader (the trick was to use his old last name, which I guessed correctly was the same as one of his brothers based on the family tree.) Also, for some reason "Shakyh of Jirruft" is actually "Shakyh of_Jirruft". But whew, I was able to get the character reset thing to work, then move him on and off the crossing, and now he's standing in the crossing instead of ambushing.
