I have had medieval 2 total war for about a month and 1/2 now and to be honest I think I may have liked rome total war better, the reason I was dissapointed with this one is because for one thing there is no faction that can get the rocket launcher except for the mongels and unfortunatly they are unplayable, also alll the factions seem really generic, because for one thing the militia units don't really differ in any way they are all just "spear militia" well except for the also generic "italian spear militia", at least in rtw their militia units had things like "militia hoplites" "carthiginian militia"
I was just wondering if anyone else felt the same way? if most other people on here disagree with me I apologize,
thanks
You can mod your game to any style of your liking. There are many mods and one I am currently using lets me play campaign as timurids and mongols and BOTH use the rocket launcher.
When I first got the game I had your exact same outlook as far as unit generics goes. England and france have very very similar units. 5 or 6 factions have equal feudal and chivalric/insert special name here knights.
But its the faction specific units that make the game fun to play.
Trust me, this game is far from perfect, and the AI is a bit of a step back from rtw, but its still a good game, and if you play it more I guarantee you will almost certainly learn to like it more.

can you tell me the name of these mods?, also I think it would be nice if you caould set the game to play at a later date like in the original mtw so you can get the more individual units.

Regnum Dei is the mod that lets you play all factions i.e. timurids and mongols. There are many other m2tw mods that are not listed on that page. A google search should find alot, and other people on this forum should know some good ones. The starting date one im not sure but its possible.
Good luck!

Nah don't bother about the rocket launcher. They suk big time. Go test it in the custom battle, even with big battles they can't hit much and have their ammo depleted before you know whats going on. Go for elephants instead, their alot more fun

thanks guys, I hope the come out with a "medieval 2 total realism" mod
Sorry for your disappointment HH
yep alot of people feel there isnt the same immersion element to this as compared with the original MTW
But the Modders give hope that the game may yet be hammered into a more fun, playable and challenging state :smash:
Myself I am playing the EB mod for RTW
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=70
which has made RTW playable for me now - and added heaps of authenitc and wonderfully textured new units
I can recommend playing this while we wait for the modders to improve M2TW
with a mod like MA
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=161
or I am also playing Lusteds Lands to Conquor mod for M2TW over at TWC.
its a pity it has to be this way - but I believe good things will come - to those who wait
You can get mercenary rocket launchers if you're in territory close to the Mongols....

Never, ever give the timurids 2 elephant arty in a custom battle. Wiped out over 1000 of my guys...
