It´s an either-or business, one or the other. I´d like to know how "customizable" (as in-game alterations) are countries during the ages in HoI 2. Alternatively, I´d like to know whether the uber-complexity of Victoria is too annoying or not.

In general, which of them would make a more balanced game. It´s an either-or, I´m not buying (or playing) both.

So, input will be appretiated

HoI2 if your unfamiliar with the genre, its quite a bit easier to sink your teeth into. Vicky is fun, but theres a lot more to do in order to get your country moving in the right direction.

I think both games have demos out, check the Paradox website (http://www.paradoxplaza.com) for download so you can try before you buy!!

Have you considered EU3? It's a sort happy medium between the complexity of Vicky and the all-out war of HOI2.

I've got HOI2 and enjoyed it for a while but found it just too one dimensional, it's relentless combat and little else. I like a game that gives me an economy to build up as well, which is why I've been enjoying the EU3 demo.

I've also got Vicky but it looked a bit too complicated and the fonts are so tiny I can hardly read them.

While Vicky is a lot of micromanagement and empire building. HoI2: DD is more of a conquering game with little economic things to do mostly military, etc.

I think I'de probably go with EU3 got a little of both mixed in. I think that's what you should get IMO.

I find Vicky more interesting. HoI2 can get a bit repetitive after a while. But as said above, it does depend on whether one prefers empire building or just war...

I´ve played Europa Universalis 2. It got a bit boring after a while. Namely, when I reached 1700 with Byzantium, was the most advanced country in infrastructure, trade, and land military, had annexed all other orthodox nations except Muscowy, which was in the process of being diplo-annexed, owned half of Africa, and a good deal of Asia (I was warring the Khazars). At which point the simplicity of the battles and the sheer number of men and lack of support needed for them made the whole thing ridiculous for my taste, and uninstalled it halfway of conquering the Great White Blob of Austria.

So, my question is: how complex are the combat systems in Vicky and HoI2? And the Economics/Research? What about politics (I know that Vicky has a party system. Does HoI have any choice of different political leaders, or sticking the political left and right thing around just make, say, Rooselvet more leftist or right-winger)? And which offers more replayability, with more choices?

(I´m beggining to lean towards Victoria, for your descriptions)

BTW: EU3 is right off my choices because of lack of hardware (32 mb 3D card... I am limited to Medieval I Total War as far as strategy games go... :( )

Hm, i would pick Victoria because it's more my style and it got a really nice map .

BTW why don't you set up limits in your EU2 Games? I do it all the time like when i'm playing with Cyprus i have to defend the pope because i am a crusader nation, i can only take Jerusalem etc etc. And try some nice mods out there (Mymap is really great, as you can see i'm a big EU2 fan)

For what it's worth, I'll mention here that Hearts of Iron II and Doomsday took my soul, heart, and attention. The only reason I'm not playing them right now is because I'm studying.

Sorry for popping in like this, but I'd like to know what are the best mods out there for Paradox games of the UE2 type, specially EU2 itself (I mean any big mods like the XL or BKB Supermod for MTW)... Are there any?

Certainly, AGCEEP.. But can i advise MyMap? It makes the map bigger and more historical there is also a Mymap and AGCEEP combined further more there is a 476 AD scenario that is very nice. Ehm Age of Imperialism makes the EU2 game last longer and has some interesting scenarios and Europa Portugalis this makes the AI far more better then in vanilla EU2

I would give you links but the servers at Paradox are very busy at the moment (Eu3 being out and all)
