1. How can you reduce culture penalty when its still a long way till the next level? Would recruiting soldiers from ur homeland and disbanding them there help (soldier pension:2thumbsup: )?
2. What level mic is best to build in what provinces according to you? I always build only the level 1 everywhere.
3. What is the estimate release date 0.81? Is it within 3 month or later?
some more questions:
-Do u gain money when youre at war at you have an army in there territory(plunder) ?
-Celts should not be one tribe yes but shouldnt they also be allied? Cause when Caesar invaded them they were united in the fight against the Romans.
-Why do some lower units like archer and slingers have so high defense skill! defense with what? knife? lol
1. Build factional buildings that are representative of your culture, and if you can afford it, it may be worth it to destroy buildings of another culture.
2. Waaay too many variables for a simple answer, I would say build 1's where you can, 2's where can unless your rome, in which case I recommend 4, and where you can only build 3/4, depends on what city and whether you want region mic 4 only, or mic 5 with the military focused one, 4.
3. When its done.
The arverni were a break away group from the Aedui confederacy who once owned all of Gaul. The Casse were exiles from the Aedui Confederacy. The other barbarian tribes were doing their own thing.
Defense skill refers to the abilty to defend from the front only, attack from the side or back and its like shooting fish in a barrel, with a rocket/heavy cav.

The gauls definatly weren't united in thier fight against Rome. Read Caesar's commentaries, he defeated the tribes piecemeal, using help from tribes that were allied to him (many of whom he later turned on or turned on him).
Defense skill actually works from all directions (but only in melee), that's shield you're thinking of. Total defense has 3 componets.

Could you elaborate on why you build 4's over 2's when your Rome? I've been building 2's and have found my provinces useless for recruitment (pre-Marion) in Iberia and north Africa. I'm about to invade the Peloponnesian penicillia and I think I'll try 4's. What can I expect?
I build 4's over 2's, typically, because your regional MIC can be built up to level 5, and allow for the best recruitment options from local region troops. With 2's, you need wait until either a marius or even augustus shows up. If I have a huge region conquered where all I have is 4's, I'll sometimes build a 3 for the economic benefits. Read the descripts on the government buildings, I think they have some strategy advice on their use, and it's worthwhile to weigh the benefits of each building.

So starting out with 4's or 3's and gradually converting them to 2's after Marion may be my best stratigy. Or maybe earlier as my economic needs require. I like the sound of that.

His third question is perhaps the most important. Is 0.81 months, or weeks, or days away?

Hmm... TA, could you spend one of your 14,308,423,493,458 posts and give me an idea of when 0.81 will be released, as in, is it weeks or months away?
Just a general idea would be great.

Many Aedui tribes were actually allied with Ceasar when he began the invasion. Some of them were settled in Roman territories and were well on their way to becoming Romanized. Thus the shock of many old Roman families when Ceasar invited his most loyal Gaulish supporters to join the Roman Senate!
Although some joined the rebellion some tribes didn't and Ceasar had some Aedui cavalry units that he used throughout the campaign and even fought with him at Pharsalus. Even some that rebelled were invited back into the fold when they saw the errors of their ways......( and after Ceasar engaged in some prodigious hostage taking!)
I have to say I was thrilled to see different Gaulish factions represented in EB.
Proving once again that EB is what Rome Total War should have been.

The problem with building typeIV is that you get a negative happiness bonus. And most places don't have anything in local MIC 4&5.

Is there a way to tell if a province will produce elite units @ MIC 4 & 5 before you construct a gov't type? Or is it common sense (i.e. Carthage, Sparta, Syracuse, Alexandria, etc.)?
Note: for Romans

For romans, you only get elites in italy *minus the southern 2 cities*. Generally, if you can build a type 1, that is were you get your best factional units.

I was asking about reigonal auxiliary units. Sorry if that was unclear.

In both Syracusae and Crete you should build a lvl4 MIC. I haven't tested most places, though most get all the units they are going to get at lvl2 or 3. IIRC, Sparte get greek archers and skirmishers at lvl1 local MIC and nothing else ever (as Romans), which was a let down (not that I expected anything unique, I just wanted to train some mid level hoplites who were from Sparta, thus I could call "Spartans").

If all the Celtic tribes had united against The Great Gaius Julius Caesar, they would have ripped him a new one.
Then again if Gaul had united against him, Caesar would not have moved forward with his conquest. He was to intelligent and wise for that.

1:Note your mnai balance.
2:Use process_cq settlement_name to build a type 4 gov and the local MICs, taking notes on which MIC allows which units.
3:Destroy the MIC and the Type 4 gov if one of the others gives you all the units.
4:Use add_money to restore your starting balance.
5:Put your newly chosen gov in the build queue.
Go through this procedure whenever you conquer a town

AFAIK: you get Samnite shock infantry over there, which is an elite force...

You could presumably also quicksave, do the "test", and load.

That's what I do, but only rarely. Usually I'll only do it in places I expect something: Syracuse (medium hoplite in L4), Carthage (nothing), Crete (Cretan Archers - worse than mercenaries though), Sparta (almost nothing), Galatia (nice!), Syria (no cool archers for Romans), Britan (just same old gallic units), etc...

Well you can also build them in Arpi and Capua right? Anyways I thought he meant faction elites IE legionaries and such.

I'm about to invade both Iberia and southern Greece. I'll probably go with lvl 2 gov't everywhere except for one city in each region. I'm thinking Athens or Sparta in Greece and New Carthage (RTW name) in Iberia. Thoughts?
