Hello,

I currently just installed the Ultimate AI mod (check mod forums); it has some excellent ideas. However, to my suprise I ran into a stack of French that did nothing but sit there idle in the battle.

I was wondering if the mod I am running has caused this, or has anyone experienced the passive AI bug at times (running 1.1)?

If the bug is 100% fixed with 1.1, I will un-install the mod, as much as I hate to. Anybody who has seen the passive AI bug in 1.1 please just drop a line.

Thanks.

if u mean passive, u meant only their missile units will move, then yes, the passive bug is still there.

during sieges, if you rally before their s.engines are built, if you have superior missile units you can shoot till you run of arrows. they will not bother u (other than THEIR missile units) as u move to flank them.

Sometimes, they don't move if you manage to stay out of their missiles range. I have managed to sally out (use side gate) and set up my whole infantry line behind them.

They were situated on a hill, 4 units of archers, some heavy cav and maybe one or two spears. I approached, the archers read "idle" and the spears and cav were "eager, ready" but nobody did anything. I basically walked up to them with one solo unit (like 3 feet from them) and stared at thier archers .

I re-loaded my game and auto-resolved the fight so they could at least inflict casualties, which they did.

Weird - was it a sally or a regular field battle?

I seldom sally, so I have never encounterd the extreme passivity that has been reported as a bug.

Pre-patch in field battles, I found the AI horribly passive on the attack (it would line up an awesome melee army in front of my longbows and just wait to die). That was game-killing for me but now is gone.

Post-patch, the AI can still be passive in the field battles on defense, in the sense that you can shoot it to death. But that's more defensible (they are outnumbered, so charging you would just lead to a an even quicker death). However, their archers not shooting when in range is strange - I've not encountered that.

I got the archer thing in a segie the other day. The entire army bar the general and a unit of spears with ladders walked upto the walls and stood their whilst I shot them down. A Unit of peasent archers where amongst them and shot back only at about 3-4 men remaining.

AI passive during sally is still there. Post patch the AI is better than it was but it still needs a lot of work. If you have missile power (or change that to get plenty of archer units) you can cut enemy ranks down to a manageable size. For example, I had an army of mainly HA, a few heavy lancers and 2 units of mercenary spears. This army was confronted by an army twice its size and vastly overpowered in both infantry and cav quality, however it only had a couple of crossbows. It stood there (field battle btw) until I had run out of arrows by which time I was able to run it off the field with my HA! I had no need of my inf and cav.
The game still has that annoying 'enemy sally' bug too. I maintained a siege on Magdeburg, the last Polish province. The Polish King and his heir sallied with a small army that I ripped to pieces. The King died, his son escaped (last man in unit) and a few others. They routed into the city and stayed there, leaving me no choice but to escape, lose the battle and have to start from scratch. Now this is bad news, a city can hold out for so many turns but if the garrison walks outside the gates and then walks back in what has changed? Their supplies are still gone and they should lose. It was quite funny to see my 10 star General and his army retreat to Stettin after a 'close defeat'. The Polish had 23 men in total and they also now had another 10 turn breather

Yes, as others have already stated you'll still run into passive battlefield AI with patch 1.1, though I think its not as prevalent anymore. Ultimate AI mod only alters AI campaign mechanics and does not change battle field mechanics. So thats not causing it.

You can try Darth's AI battle mechanics mod, I know it will work with Ultimate AI as I'm playing with both mods (and a few others) mixed. Though I can't say if Darth's mod has totally fixed the passive battlefield AI as I've only just incorporated it this week and haven't had much playing time outside testing some stuff.

If the bug is 100% fixed with 1.1, I will un-install the mod, as much as I hate to. Anybody who has seen the passive AI bug in 1.1 please just drop a line.

Thanks.

As I mentioned above, its not the Ultimate AI mod causing passivity on the battlefield so no need to unisntall it.

Thanks for the info gang. Irish, can you post a link to this AI battlefield mob by Darth? Sounds intresting. I did not see any threads about it over in mod forum.

Thanks.
