I have already destroyed the Timurid's faction Will playing with the English. but only by assassinating the family members.

So this is what really happened i had already captured all of coastal cities near jerusalem. Then i got a letter that said that the Timurid's had arrived in the baghdad region I requested a crusade hoping that with the all of the european strength we might be able to stop the Timurid's before the grew strong. But when the crusading armies arrived in Baghdad there was no one there.

So i toke the city but when the Timurid's arrived they just left Baghdad alone.
and marched to jerusalem. sadly for me that was one of my city's. So i trained massive amounts of troops but here is the problem, not matter how many units i used against them i never manged to beat them on the open field

I was accustomed to melee combat but before i could even reach them half of my army would be rained to death by there archers. later i ordered a full retreat to the settlements, although it did not really help to beat the Timurid's it seemed that the only place i could stand a chance was in a settlement.

in the mean time i was busy assassinating the family members. and after a will i destroyed the last. But i was almost sad that i had killed them because they wore the only faction that i had never found a weakness. and i wonder is there any one playing with the english that has found a good strategy on the open field against the Timurid's.

Hi! There are several other topics discussing your issue, for example: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=74051 But not to be a jerk I will answer you: if you manage to kill the panzerphants of the Timurids, they are not more difficult to eliminate in open field, than any other faction. As you are with the English you ain't have no javelins, that would be the best against the pachydremes, you have to use ballistas and archers with fire against them.

On M/M difficulty with myself as the Papal States, the Mongol Empire crushed them like they were some insignificant bug. Soon after I get the message that they've found a new homeland in Antioch, they were destroyed...

English have longbows. Use that to your advantage.
Alternatively, the AI tends to defend when attacked (i.e. you should attack, not hold position) when it has more ranged troops than you do. SO what you could do is to attack with a cav/infantry heavy army when the Timurids hold their position and withdraw parts of your army to be replacded by a longbow reinforcements army with which you can sequentially shoot em off their horses (and off their elephants). Just switch in around 4-6 longbows each time and keep exchanging till you run out.
If they have been properly decimated, you can charge in with your melee, if not, just withdraw. You win the day either way.

I did roughly the same thing as Moors against the Mongols by changing in peasant crossbows (long range) and horse archers.

Sometimes a defeat is worth more than a victory ;)

Battling them at bridges does NOT work, specially in the begining of their invasion when they attack with elephants :(
Also without the elephant they are too hard to hold at bridges cause they have to much missile and cavalry units :smash:

The best way for me was as same as with the Mongols ( If you assassinate every family member befor they take their first city, their armys will dissapear without becoming rebels :)

Although this metod of mine takes the most preparation and is not sure to succsed, since you have to complettgy cover a large territory with watchtowers to see whe they firts appear, and a LOTS of PROassassins, also you have to fight them of form obtainig the first city :sweatdrop:

That's what YOUR missile units are for. I broke the spearhead of Timurid forces on a bridge. 10+ units of elephant artillery is a heck of a tough battle for ANY non-Timurid stack. You need to put some fodder troops at the mouth of the bridge. And some extra fodder troops. With elephant artillery, they tend to hang back and open up on you before crossing. You engage them with your own artillery (culverin in my case). Two nice things happen here... my own misses sometimes land in the mass of troops they are readying at the bridge mouth, and when the elephants go amuck they'll sometimes take some friendlies down.

If you are expecting your melee unit fighting that at the bridge mouth to win it you are wrong. If you are expecting them to survive you are wrong. Their only job is to hold the enemies when they rush the bridge there long enough your ranged units can slaughter the attacker. Make sure to send in more before they die or route. Don't be afraid to fire artillery straight through your own guys...given the enemy pile up on the bridge, the attacker will lose a lot more men than you do for it. Simply make sure your ranged units are within range of the bridge, but not in range of the opposite bank. Their own missile infantry/cav will have no choice but to try crossing the bridge, get tangled in melee, and be shot down from afar while they do.

Also I seem to usually whack the enemy general in the opening salvo. What is it with them and artillery??

you can always get them to chase after some of your armies while you take over the rest of the map like i did :)

If you actually have to kill the crazy elephants and dont have respectable artillery, musketeers are significantly more effective against the elephants than normal archers

Timurid's have a weakness for Spanish Princesses. Bring a bunch of them out on the front lines and that get all gaga eyed. Slaughtered them when they are distracted.

Their really big weakness is Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey ice cream, so bring along plenty.:laugh4:
