View Full Version : Impossible to Bribe Generals?

I've heard other people complaining about this, and I have never managed to bribe an enemy General. This is particularly unrealistic for Rebel Generals, who have no loyalties, and so should be much easier to bribe.

Would it be possible to give all Rebel Generals a trait which did, say, -80% decrease to cost to bribe, +50% chance of accepting bribe?

Also, it would be nice if a script could open up diplomacy between two armies as they met, to bribe one to disband, as this often happened in real life. It would also save annoying micromanagement with Diplomats.

I haven't found it impossible--just expensive.

About half the Rebel generals seem to be bribe-able, but only a few of the AI generals (those with low loyalty).

I am playing Lusted's "Lands to Conquer" mod, I'm not sure if the bribe-ability has been fiddled with relative to vanilla M2TW.

there are diplomat traits which make it easier to bribe like smoothtalker, but even with these i was paying about 800k to bribe mongol generals! (obviously i did a money cheat)

it is so difficult to bribe now that it is a pointless feature

i think 50 to 100k would be reasonable. for example in the case of the mongols you would be able to bribe one of their generals at a real stretch but there would be no chance of being able to afford to bribe two - hence you couldnt use it as a "gamey" strategy to defeat them.

making it harder to bribe people is due to the early days of RTW where bribes were so cheap. Since bribes are almost guaranteed if you had enough money, you can bribe any faction into submission. If a full stack of legionary cohorts appear right next to your lightly defended capital, no problem, just pay a few thousand florins and they will disapear

I miss those days, and have even considered the uninstall reinstall trick to be able to do that again.

yeah i know that but i think they priced it up by too much to a factor of about 10

It's definitely broken when my 10 Diplomat can't get a no stats Rebel Captain with 2 units to even name a price and I have 100 grand in the bank.
