A spanish love story
This the Year since our Lords Resurection Eleven hundred and Twenty One.

The region of Toledo in the Holy Spanish Realm.

The Spanish crown under His Highness King Diego is in the midst of a bloody conflict with the English heretics. English armys roam the iberian penninsular burning and pillaging as they go.

One such english army under the command of a young lord of only forteen winters. To have such responsibility at such a young age one must have either have shown to be a natural born leader or be extremely well connected, perhaps a favourite nephew of the King. His name Barnaby Longe. Barnaby the fortunate, Barnaby the favourite, Barnaby the spotty faced boy his men whisper.

The spanish kings spies have told of Barnaby, and the clever King has set an ambush - but this will be no ordinary trap.

The King sends his only daughter, Isabella to negotiate a cease fire with the English army now camped a days march from Toledo. Isabella the magnificent, Isabella the immaculate madonna, she is called in the kings court.

The spanish envoy comes to the camp at dusk and in the half-light Barnaby and the Isabella take their first sight of each other.... and I would not be telling this story had they not fallen in love at that moment, and that love have changed the world.

Barnaby spent the night talking with the princess - the two were as they had known each other in a previous life, they laughed and drank in each other firtive glances. Meanwhile in the english camp the second in command Cpt Derrick Geiles of York, made mutterings to his men, how Barnaby would not know what to do with a woman, and how they would all have their turn with the princess once Toledo fell. Barnaby the fool he said.

Come the dawn, Barnaby emerged from the tent, he and his loyal bodyguard were armed and mounted when he addressed the army from the hillside. Men I will march with you no longer for this unholy war, he said. The men jeered Barnaby the traitor, Barnaby the coward. Derrick took up his sword and charged at Barnaby crying, Death to the traitor!!

Barnaby spurred his chargers and the battle had been joined. A long day of much blood and toil and many a charge did Barnaby the beligured make, and with only a few knights left standing, Barnaby took in the scene of the bodies of his slain army, and knew he was Barnaby the Victorious.

Barnaby married the princess Isabella, the ambush the king had set had worked better than he could have dream, not only had the english army been defeated, but he had a new son in law, who had shown himself capable in battle, Barnaby the glorious, Barnaby the brave.

Twenty score and four years have passed and we find Barnaby standing not far from the place where he first met his princess, In the distance we see the mighty english crusading army, the banners of many lords and princes at its fore. They come to spain for war, they come to spain for revenge, they come to spain because they have not forgotten, they come for Barnaby.
