Hmmmmmmmmm, I'm new to the forum, so this may not be in the right place. Please excuse.
I just bought Rome: Total War Gold
I've tried patching it, with no luck. I've then tried to install EUropa mod, but it's having none of it.
I'm thinking that the GOLD edition is different to vanilla R:TW, I know it lives in a different directory.
Can anyone help??
No idea, but you'll get much more help in the RTW forums than you will here.
Moved.

I also bought R:TW Gold. It is the one that includes Rome:Total War as well as Barbarian Invasion. Mine installed both versions of the game (RTW & BI) and RTW was already at ver 1.5. You can see the version somewhere in the menu system of the game (at work now, can't check).
So, to answer one of your questions. You don't need to patch RTW. It is already at 1.5 unless you want to try out 1.6 (the latest patch I believe)

Hi,
My gold installed in C:/Program Files/The Creative Assemby/Rome : Total War. Just point the installer there and away you play. Good luck and cheers!
I can tell you that the Gold edition is resistant to modding it for "all civs playable" I tryed monkeying around witha 1-6 patch, then I tryed rearranging the civs in the directory as described in this forum and I still get the basic 8 :furious3: I finally gave up, I wish i'd bought RTW seperate. Peice of donkey crap.

Perhaps you are searching the wrong folder IceWolf. R:TW Gold is in no way "resistant" to making all factions playable. I have done it several times with no problems.
To play as all factions (excluding the senate and the rebels): download this file (http://www.filefactory.com/file/9e39a5/) and overwrite your existing "Rome: Total War/data/world/maps/imperial_campaign/descr_strat.txt". Cheers!

I got "Total Wars :ERAs" at Christmas
This includes one disk that installs both RTW and BI and it calls itself RTW Gold.
The versions it installs are RTW at V1.5 and BI at V1.6. No patching is needed for a great gaming experience.
I have a feeling that the V1.5 it installs is different from the old V1.5 that i had. (V1.0 patched through V1.3 to V1.5). The reason I say this is that when swapping a save game with other players the retinue and traits were most strange. I suspect the data was was different despite both being V1.5
Thanks Omanes. I'll be busy with Super Bowl party stuff today but I'll try it newxt week. BTW, do I need to uninstall it first? Thanks

No, you just need to overwrite it.
And BTW, you are welcome
Ok, I downloaded the file to my desktop, but when I open it, it's just text. What do I do with it now? Thanks

Hi again,
If you have Gold then you just have to:
Go into my Computer.
Go into C:\ (or whatever the letter of your hardrive is).
Go into Program Files.
Go into The Creative Assembly.
Go into Rome - Total War.
Go into data.
Go into world.
Go into maps.
Go into campaign.
Go into imperial_campaign.
Drag and drop the file from the desktop into the folder. When it asks if you want to overwrite click "yes".
Open up R:TW and play away!Good luck and cheers!
My game is in the games folder, I did drag/drop it into the imperial_campaign folder. Now do I havta win a campaign to unlock it? It never asked me to overwrite it. thanks,
IceWolf

RTW Gold is already fully patched.
For the mod, since I am going to download (for the first time) Rome Total Realism, is there an option to save the original settings in case I want to go back?

This is true. RTW Gold can also be modded as all factions playable in the same way as you would do so for RTW v1.5.

No, it should work. I can't understand why it isn't working. Peculiar, what factions can you see on the campaign selection screen? It should have asked you if you wanted to overwrite too.

Slightly off topic, but whilst I'm here,
I have RTW Gold on my laptop, but visiting a friend he gave me his copy which was the basic Rome so I could play.
But my computer didn't recognise the CD and so I couldn't play.
Thought this was very strange.
Does this mean I have to keep my RTW Gold cd with me when I go visiting ?
or is there a way to link the Vanilla CD to my current game ?
any advice would be great, thanks.

Hi bedlam,
I'm sorry, but the standard R:TW disk is not compatable with R:TW Gold. You need to carry your Gold disk with you to make it work. Sorry.

Alot of mods default to the RTW /Activision/ directory instead of /The Creative Assembly/ one. Make sure that isn't the problem.
I've been outta town for a few days. Ok Omanes, I went into my computer and my imperial campaign file now reads like this
; Custom campaign script generated by Romans Campaign Map Editor
campaign imperial_campaign
playable
romans_julii
romans_brutii
romans_scipii
macedon
pontus
armenia
dacia
numidia
scythia
spain
thrace
egypt
seleucid
carthage
parthia
gauls
germans
britons
greek_cities
end
unlockable
end
nonplayable
romans_senate
slave
end
Should I be good to go now? Thanks

It won't let me edit my posts. Omanes, it's still reading offa the old junk. When I try to start a new campaign I get the basic 11 civs still. Oh gaming gods, what have I done to offend thee? Any advice? thanks

Hmm, I'm utterly confused. It works for me - very strange how it wont work for you. I can't really offer any more advise here, this is totally beyond my very limited R:TW modding knowledge. Sorry I can't help you very well.
BTW, you can't edit your posts till you are a full member.
