From the LA Times (http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-reid28jan28,0,5893951.story?page=1&coll=la-home-headlines)
It's hard to buy undeveloped land in booming northern Arizona for $166 an acre. But now-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid effectively did just that when a longtime friend decided to sell property owned by the employee pension fund that he controlled.Who thinks this sounds dirty?

I've been hearing bits and pieces about this for a while. My stance is that if you're a politician, and I know your name, and recognize you're face...I don't trust you. Money is the mother's milk of politics and I'm sure laws are bent over backwards or broken all the time to make it.

Why am I not surprised?

If I remember correctly, Reid also often likes to do business around Vegas. A booming land price tend to attract...all kinds.

I wish we didn't need an epic shower of sleaze like the last congress to get anti-incumbent fever going. Who's the comedian was who said, more or less, "They said Washington was a sewer, but when they got there, they said, 'Hey, this isn't a sewer—it's a jacuzzi!' "

Personally, I really don't think this is sleazy enough to get a Democrat senator in much trouble. For some reason, a few newspapers are picking this up- but the story is still largely under the radar and isn't picking up any momentum from what I've seen.

Now had this been Cheney.....

There are some corrupt politicians in both major US political parties.

The "tone" taken by the mainstream media with such affairs is simple. That is:

Some Democrat politicos are crooks and need to be removed from office, and

Some Republican politicos are crooks and this is why the Republicans need to be removed from office.

Well said!

Yes we have had a tendency to forget all of the Democratic Congressional Scandals that were ever a plague in Washington prior to Newt Gingrich in 1994, was it…
The house banking scandal, congressional retirements where they left office to more pay than in Congress and a government-paid staff larger than what they had on Capitol Hill…
The usual rider at the bottom of laws making Congress exempt from the statutes good enough for the rest of the country. All of those terrible things those dastardly Republicans did …and the Grinch that stole Christmas…

In all fairness though there are a lot of crooked Republicans and they should suffer.

But the main difference in the Democratic crooks is that they more generally make it a Party Effort…
