View Full Version : Let's play a game and make some costumes.
The goal of this is to create a reconstruction of the equipment presented by some of the units in EB. So let's lay down two conditions for this:
1. Cost is not an issue; therefore, if the cost of this is several thousand dollars, it does not matter as long as the second condition is met.
2. Attempt to match the equipment as closely as possible with links to where the equipment can be attained.
First unit: Seleukid Hypaspist Peltast

Errrr.
How about something easier, like a Briton Luogae or Bataroas???
There, you`ll get ppl faster into the game, since is not that hard, but it`s tricky because of the body painting...

Agreed. Ask for something easier and I'll try. This is just impossible for anyone that isn't a re-enactor with access to his group's/friends's stash of glittery stuff. :beam: :sweatdrop:
:help:
Okay, let's not start with the Hypaspist then; however, I still want to stick with the Greeks. How about the Peltast?

Hehe, I live about an hour and a half away from Toledo, where they make all kinds of steel tempered swords, Roman Imperial lorica segmentatas, gladius hispaniensis (duh we invented it) and all kind of armour, shields, from Saracen to Christian to whatever you want, even LOTR stuff is there (a full suit of steel Elven armor from the first movie´s intro scene too with the curving blade)
it´s probably one of the few places left where there is a large amount of old fashioned smithies who produce all kinds of intricate and historical armour. FYI, the scutum imperatoria is heavy... after paying 200 euros and purchasing two broadswords, the guy let me wear the lorica segmentata, and the cool imperial hat with the long metal mullet... gotta love roman armor.
fyi you can order custom built armor from these people... just show them a picture and they pretty much make anything (our family shield was made by them, yes we do have a family shield)

I could manage a Gaesatae.
I cant see that being hard...
just strip bare (not pretty i know), roll your self in blue chalk powder (you might want to cover your manly part... chalk stings... ), grab one of your girlfriend's very wide belt's wrap that around your waist (make sure she's not looking, those belts aint supposed to touch the skin.. down there...)
grab a sword and nail a doorhandle to a large piece of timber...
off you go....
:laugh4:

Naw, never heard of that, these are small shops mom an pop businesses, TONS of them in Toledo (which by the way is 1200 years old, and still has the old Roman walls around it and then the Christian walls above those..) also in Zaragoza there is a statue of Caesar Augustus (authentic and still standing, I was busy grabbing this Italian girls butt when staring at it though) with parts of the Roman wall there (this was an ancient Carthaginian colony taken by the Romans, just like Barcelona is named after a famous carthaginian family, (COUGH BARCA COUGH)) it takes a whole new meaning now that I discovered EB... :) Tarragona also is Carthaginian... history is alive even today!
as for the above, yes I live in Spain. Next trip I take to TOledo (its an hour away from Madrid), Í'll see if I can con one of the store owners to let me take pictures in a full suit of Roman lorica segmentata, with that damned heavy ass Scutum... and I'll post them. I'd make a good legionnaire. :) I dont think they like cameras though... and I´ll see if I can get website links for all you fans of real weaponry (the blades they sell are dulled, of course) but I broke a branch about 10 inches in diameter with a thrust... steel is steel after all.
ROMA INVICTA!
must brush up on Ciceronian
Ha! Thank you Lonely Mountain Forge!
On this page (http://members.aol.com/gijchar/new05.htm) it is listed as a Hellenistic helmet. I e-mailed Joe and he pointed it out to me and how, if I wanted to get one closer to the Hypaspist one, it would be about $800 cheaper without the sideburns and various embellishments of Apollo and Athena. Pretty sweet.
