General-Winter
02-05-2007, 01:57
Simple, Where did you get your blog name? and why did you choose it?

General Winter is a name i've used for a while; I tend to be cool under pressure in-game. The name itself was the russian nickname for the 1942-43 winter that halted Operation Barbarossa.

Evil_Maniac From Mars
02-05-2007, 02:53
It's a long and complex story...

It started 817 Martian years ago...

On Mars...

A child was born...

A child who would grow to enter the Royal Family of Mars...

A child who would become a Maniac of the Imperial Martian Forces...

A child who was named...

mightilyoats
02-05-2007, 06:38
Mightily Oats is a character in one of the early Terry Pratchet discworld novels. He was a priest of some kind.

I didn't really associate with the character, I just liked the name...

Chaos Cornelius lucius
02-06-2007, 03:50
I'd just finished reading Colleen M'cullough's First Man in Rome series when I first started playing MTW online so I picked Cornelius Lucius after Sulla's name. Shame I got it the wrong way round:oops: .
Should have been Lucius Cornelius. DOH!

Lord Gruffles
02-06-2007, 04:30
I used to be Lord Alameda because I lived in Alameda, California. This past summer I moved my wife and two boys back to the place I was born (but never lived past age 6 mo.) to Great Falls, Montana. Since Lord Great Falls doesn't really work, I took the nickname we've always used for Great Falls, Gruffles. http://www.montanasentinel.com/gruffles/gifs/cowboy.gif

Tiberius of the Drake
02-07-2007, 02:05
well...

I usually just use Drake simply because i like latin and Draconius is latin for a standard bearer, who carried a dragon standard:book: , of the late Roman empire (classical one) and i anglicized it. I choses tiberius because i believe that he is probably the most underaprreciated of the Julio-Claudian emperors (first five emperors). also it is a common ancient latin name.:2thumbsup:

germanpeon
02-08-2007, 02:38
Ive used germanpeon since I started playing Warcraft 3 on battlenet, and I chose that name for some random reason. It doesnt really apply to anything else (for lack of Wc3 peons), but I use it anyway.

All heavy armor were called cows(name of heavy tank was Barcowlinch(dont ask me why russian people made the game) but i got extremely good at hitting the critical hit points on the tanks and so i got the nick name CowTipperHick which started a huge thing:laugh4:

Cool topic.

When I was in 7th-8th grade I was getting pretty interested in the Third Reich and it's history. Many of my friends started jokingly calling me "Hitler" and "nazi". To screw with them, and because I think it's a cool name, I thought of a cool name.

Der= The
Fasciti= Fascist

Lord Winter
02-26-2007, 02:52
I couldn't think of any other name so I just took one from the book I was reading at that time. The name comes from the general forsaken, Sammual, in Robert Jordan's WoT series.

Forlorn Hope, eh?
02-26-2007, 03:08
Well the forlorn hope were/are suicidal just like me. And supposedly my ancestors were French-Canadian fur traders.

BelRiose
02-26-2007, 04:57
Well, Bel Riose is the name of the last great emperor of the Galactic Empire in Isaac Asimov's Foundation Series (which is like, awesome). The Empire in the series is based on the Roman one in Edward Gibbon's "History of the Rise and Fall..." and Bel Riose just happens to be eerily similar to Belisarius, the rather talented (maybe exaggerated, I'm not well read on the subject) Byzantine general we all know.

ChaosLord
02-26-2007, 21:12
I started using this first in like 98 I think after reading the book Lord of Chaos by Robert Jordan. That bit at first "The lions sing and the hills take flight, the moon by day and sun by night. Blind woman, deaf man, jackdaw fool, let the Lord of Chaos rule." just sounded good. So, not all that unique but it tended to fit within most character limits and I liked the sound of it so I stuck with it.

Later on I came up with an original one that I use for most things now, ChaotikVisions. The meaning is pretty easy to get and it just has a nice ring to it. I think I originally came up with it when having to register for something and finding ChaosLord and variations taken.

cegorach
02-26-2007, 22:08
Cegorach,

the Laughing God, God of the Harlequins

Cegorach, the Laughing God, the other surviving god of the Pantheon was the trickster and artist of the pantheon, and as such is the god of the Harlequins troupe. When all the other gods were destroyed, Cegorach fled before Slaanesh until Khaine rose to do battle with it. The Laughing God took this chance to escape into the realm of the Webway, as only he is said to know all the secrets of its passages. The master of the Harlequins, Cegorach is the only Eldar god that still remains in its original form.

Only this way my huge ego can manifest itself properly:laugh4: :laugh4:

zoyclem
03-10-2007, 22:03
My handle comes from the trademark used by a long-forgotten anarchist named Zoy Clem.

He and a fellow conspirator (the Floy Boy) hoped to overthrow the government by defacing dollar bills with stupid artwork and odd statements such as "PLAY MONEY" or "FAKE" in prominent locations. Their signatures overlaid those of the original Treasurer and Secretary.

These two radicals would then spend this capital to place it back into circulation, hoping to confuse clerks and bank tellers everywhere. Or at least that’s how I pictured it.

Needless to say, the plan failed, but the artwork was very good and looked like it belonged on the bills. The only drawback was that the guerilla artists used extremely bright colors, which made the currency stand out like a long-extinct three-dollar note.

Anyway, I came upon one of these bills, and found the name Zoy Clem bizarre enough to remember, so eventually I started using it as a blog handle, partly because it seemed unique (I wouldn't have to worry about others taking it first), and also because it had a somewhat surreal history.

You wouldn't perchance have a picture of one of those notes handy would you? :beam:

zoyclem
03-14-2007, 23:24
Sapi,

I kind of wish I did sometimes. The artwork was very intricate and the outlining looked to be done with India ink, which added some realistic touches. The bill I came into possession of was a 'BONE' instead of a 'ONE,' and poor George had become a stylized rendition of Elton John with large glasses. Underneath his bust was the title of Elton Geo.

Later, a friend of mine ran across a 'NIFTY' in place of a 'FIFTY.' We learned of still another example one night while talking about it at a party—a girl named Carrie joined us who mentioned encountering a ‘CONE.’ So it seems there were at least three of these works floating around.

We formulated a theory based on our recollections of the bills and the weird statements inscribed upon them: Floy and Zoy were misguided lunatics bent on overthrowing the system, using hopelessly quixotic tactics to achieve this outcome. We never decided on what ‘system’ they were actually seeking to overthrow, however.

I wish the 'Where's George' website had existed when I was passed this funny money, as I could have added the serial numbers into their database and tracked the bill after I spent it. Just think of the places it might have traveled. :balloon2:

Welcome to the Org, scipiosgoblin. ~

As pevergreen pointed out, however, it's usually considered bad form to resurrect old threads like this. In the future, a general rule of thumb to follow is if it's been more than 3 months since someone last posted in a thread, you're better off leaving it be.
