I am playing as Sicily and have taken a few cities in the Holy Land. One, Acre, is being held by a few peasants and archer units and every turn is attacked by a mongol army. In the first attack, the first wall was taken and my men retreated to the second wall. I won on the time limit. During the following attacks, the first wall remained breached and one time I lost the second line of defense as well. The only problem with this is that as long as I pull my troops back to the inner keep, the AI has no clue on what to do. If I place all my troops there at the placement screen, I immediately get a win. All other placement schemes require a speeded up battle till the time limit expires, in which case, I still get a win.
Acre is only generating 650 a turn and I am tempted to just pull out and let them have the city..

Are you playing patch 1.1?

In my experience fighting the Mongols, they do understand that they have to breach the second wall once I retreat. However, it's clearly not optimised. Once they have breached the first wall, they stand about some time, and then they bring some siege equipment to breach the second wall. However, their attempts can't really be called anything but very halfhearted. They usually bring in a couple of rocket launchers and fire away, then one infantry unit at a time with rams until I've wrecked them all and won.

Yes I am playing patch 1.1. I have noticed that there will sometimes be a solitary launcher that was hauled up to the base of the second wall..

Yup.... they don't make much of an attempt most of the time...

I once had a Grand Bombard hauled in however, which blew a hole and I lost.

But that has only happened once, and I've been besieged dozens of times...
