I only recently noticed if you have a family member w/ an army join a crusade, you can simply click leave it. Rejoin. leave it. rejoin, and after 2 dozen times or so, you'll have maxed out command, and chivalry, and have huge stats like saintly ruler. what an exploit! hope they fix that in the patch. thoughts?

Thought: don't do it. I know, simple, right? If it's an exploit, and you don't like it, just don't do it. The AI sure won't be doing it either, so nothing to worry about...

I've never had that happen, and unfortunately sometimes you have to leave and rejoin the crusade. Example: during my Spanish campaign, the Pope called for a crusade against Antioch. At the time, I owned all of the Iberian Peninsula as well as Marrakesh, Algiers, Cagliari and Ajaccio. I gathered some troops from around the peninsula, joined the crusade, and put them on the boats at Valencia. From there, I sailed south to Algiers where I'd recruited 4 units of jinetes to join the crusade. In order to get them as part of the crusade, and keep the double move, after they joined the army I had to take the general out of the crusade and have him rejoin it. I got no chivalry bonus from this. I added some additional troops in Cagliari and had to repeat the leave/rejoin cycle.

I've done the same thing in other campaigns. If I don't do it, the new troops don't show the crusade background and I only have normal movement for the army. That may also explain why some people have had "failed crusades" when they successfully took the target; they'd added some troops to the army right before making the assault.

@Quillian: I think he means use the Abandon Crusade button, You lose the Crusader History, but nothing else, so all the other Chivalry traits you pick up by it get accumulated real fast, as a result you can easily pick up near full chivalry and authority plus a fair chunk of piety, add in then re-joining and participating in the crusade and it wouldn't be hard to get a full chivalry/command/piety/authority general all in one go.

I know, but that's also what I'm talking about. Once you've formed a crusade, all the icons get replaced by that sea greenish background with the cross in the upper corner. If you add new units after that, their background doesn't change to the crusade background, and if any non-crusading units are in the army, you don't get the expanded movement rate. Moving the general out and in didn't change things for me. The only way to make those new units actually "in" the crusade was to hit the Abandon Crusade button, followed by the Join Crusade button. At that point, all the units in the army became part of the crusade. I got the bonus movement again, and didn't get any extra traits as a result. But then, I haven't done that when I wasn't adding new units to the crusade, and that might be what triggers it.

When you add new units to an existing crusade, they change to the cross portrait the next turn.

This is a kind of exploit though since the ai doesnt do this and it is kinda unrealistic to have new 20 year old generals at maxed out everything

People who get up in arms about exploits in singleplayer boggle the mind. You want the devs to spend time patching a potential exploit when you can just, not use it? Is it hurting you to think that other people might be doing it? I just don't understand.

I think it's more that a lot of people are habitual cheaters, Musashi, and can't resist the urge to use an exploit once they know about it. I guess a fix is the crutch they need to avoid that overwhelming compulsion to cheat. I know, sad, right?

the thing about this exploit is that if you leave a crusade, you will lose all of your crusader traits such as grand crusader, but will gain points in the chivalrous ruler line. You will max out at saintly ruler so you wont be able to get perfect generals right away, but getting started with an extra 5 chivalry helps alot

I've found an even easier cheat. Using Photoshop, I took one of the M2TW background screens and wrote the following text on it:

Congratulations, You have won the Game!

Now I start up a new game, then display the edited screen and I've won. Why won't CA fix this exploit?
