View Full Version : Ask the team
Hi
Have seen this thread work well and stop open debates in other mod forums.
Basic rules are you can post a question or questions but only team members can answer. Other people posting have their posts deleted BUT the original poster can reply to the team response if they feel they need further clarification.
It allows the team time to reply without a debate derailing the initial query before the team has had a chance to reply.

...the hey? Seems a bit superfluous to me. The team has always managed to stay on the rail despite open arguments. No need for such strongarm tactics as to delete other replies.
Hence my making the point, and i thought i made at least that bit clear, :elephant: about other people joining in and derailing things :knuddel:
These things get very confusing for us mortals to follow :flowers:
However many questions can be quite satisfactorily answered by non-team members. Its not non-members answering that derails things, its the flame wars that develop when people dont like the answers.
Besides, this is a forum, and the whole idea is to generate discussion. If people are effectively banned from discussing issues/questions other people raise, whats the point of having an open forum?

We didn't ban anyone, we just wanted some sort of order, since MeinPanzer was jumping from one topic to another, continuously making new topics without waiting for a documented response, then reappearing in another thread which we thought had been answered to his satisfaction, starting threads which continuously antagonized all of what we are trying to accomplish. Personally, I welcome MeinPanzer and his views, yet there is always a bitter sweet feeling, a hint if you may call it that, of just not enough .... respect for what it is we are trying to do. Just that.
Let's review some of the basics. Had there been a single, ONE singe picture, a snapshot if you will of all the armies of the era EB talks about, then we can talk of inaccuracy and what have you. But, there aren't. There are just coins depicting soldiers, fragments of torn metal they used, frescoes, illegible text, people describing something else according to their own experience which may mislead, famous example the famous "immitation legionaries" which are basically Thorakitai etc. This is what we have to work with. To add insult to that, it turns out that most armies of the era had so many different helmets/vests/colouration that it would be just crazy to try to re-create a coherent army unit out of themwithin the confines of RTW. Yet, we try. We have literally fistfights about proposed units, and historicity thereof. Many VERY interesting units might never see the light of day, because people suggested they might be a-historical, (out of the timeframe in which EB takes place). Well, those units WONT see the light of day, because of that. No lorica segmentata for EB.
The point... We try. We are human. We welcome dialogue, but in dialogue there are rules to be set and respected.

Maybe when everything is done and settled, you guys could post a "EB Unit Graveyard" showing all those neat units that never got made.
This wasn't a direct reference to the MPanzer thread, so apologies there Mpanzer if you thought it was directed at you, this is just an observations of several of these threads over the past few months.
Just thought it may help the team in allowing them the time to answer after due internal consideration and hopefully entail less of their time being taken away from new versions :) of EB
I have seen this work well on other mod boards (of which i'm a member of three) and it seems to work well......and it doesnt stop non team members debating points....in fact many of these questions stem from non member discussions/aguments/debates/tirades/loveins etc etc.
