just found this at eurogamer:

"9Dragons, developed by Indy21, is a free to play MMO for PC, which is set in Ming Dynasty China. You'll be able to chose between one of six martial-art clans, along with three advanced factions that will be run by players rather than computer controlled characters."

"All of Acclaim’s games are free to play. The games are supported by in-game advertising and optional item purchasing to enhance gameplay. Therefore, it costs absolutely nothing to play 9Dragons from Acclaim."

Sounds pretty interesting, i´m downloading it atm (my first mmorpg ~D).

Has anyone experience with this game?

Has anyone experience with this game?
No, but I sure wouldn't mind getting some with this one  Too bad it's in open beta still; I don't feel like testing a game, I'd rather have the total package when 'tis done. Asia and stuff, ooooo :beam:

This one will go on my "list of games to check out sometime". Thanks for bringing this up.

It isnt a real beta (current version is 0.9d), the game is pretty stable (had only 1 ctd) and the asia setting is really addictive, i couldnt stop playing until i reached lvl 12 last night :charge:

:jawdrop: What specs I see there! Damned low. Hmm, I can hardly find any screenshots, though, but from the few that I've seen it actually doesn't even look that bad, and if the game is really enjoyable gameplay-wise, etc., and it's of course FREE, well.... then I think we have a game worth checking out.

Too bad I won't, though. It's probably too addicting :P Who knows when I start playing I can't stay away from it.

Best advice i can give you: dont start. For me, its already too late. Just reached
level 25 yesterday and I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THAT HAPPENED. I didnt play that much, did I? :shame:

btw, here are some pics (http://phpbb.acclaim.com/9dragons/viewtopic.php?t=14952&sid=5343f4012e621d91f6e16cb551e07fa1)

Nah, you didn't play too much, lol :P

But these pics are damn good. Even if they aren't up to today's standards, they got this thing, I don't know. It's probably the settings and such that just make it look good and appealing. Must-- resist-- playing-- 9-- Drag-- Do-- work, and-- stuff... and-- ARRRGH!

I downloaded it, it's quite addictive and fun. Perhaps we could form a .ORG "Clan" of sorts.

Bava
02-17-2007, 22:22
Yeah, its a really nice game at the beginning. Im RC 11 (Wu Tang Clan, Black Tortoise) and leveling and improving skills is a royal pain in the a*** for advanced characters (0.10 % exp for a yellow mob).-> grindfest
But if you want some gameplay tips, just drop me a PM.

Btw ive found another good free online MMORPG:Voyage Century online (http://www.voyagecenturyonline.com/)

Its some kind of pirates game but you can have professions like craftsman, trader or soldier, too. As soon as ive some experience with it ill report back to you guys :captain:

How exactly would you go about joining Wu-Tang? The tutorial cut out part way through. I think I'm in the right village to join, I just don't know where.

Bava

Wu tang clan? Very good choice, EMFM! :stwbow:

You need to be level gathering chi 8 to become a apprentice and opening chi 1
for a student. At this level you can choose your class and are allowed to restat.

In this guide (http://phpbb.acclaim.com/9dragons/viewtopic.php?t=5855&sid=14f6736f8d969e6ccde06c030628ea22)
is all all you need to know about joining WTC. It took me ~8 hours from game start to student.

Happy gaming! ~D

I started up a char and joined the Brotherhood of Thieves, aiming to be a Taishan Bandit (Hybrid). My characters name is Nihkos if you want to message me. My guy is just at Gathering Chi 1 at the moment.Heres a link I found helpful for choosing my guild and class. http://phpbb.acclaim.com/9dragons/viewtopic.php?t=1628&start=0&sid=54984B165EC672DCFF5C623D3112FA02

That Voyage Century one looks interesting too, hope it'll run alright on dialup. I'm going to start downloading it and give it a try.

My 9Dragons name is [malibustacy (my nick since the good ol´ CS times ~D), feel free to message me. But im not online that often, as im trying to get that darn 40 cannon ship in VCO atm.

After playing some hours, heres my little review for Voyage Century:

+ very nice and mature community (if you ask for help in public chat, you do actually get an helpful answer and not: ROFL.stpd n00b.)

+ at lot of skills and professions (every prof needs one to three skills): Discoverer, Blacksmith, Trader, Tailor, Alchemist, Soldier, Farmer, Shipbuilder and of course Pirate (the most difficult one). And you can do all these stuff with one character.

+ good guild system: guilds can have alliances and wars ( HUGE sea and land battles) and can take over cities on the strat map through sieges if they have enough members.

+ huge map: Europe, Africa, America, Asia: its all there. But i havent left the Med yet (its the newbie zone :stwshame: )

+ runs well on old comps ( 2400+ Athlon, 512 gig, geforce ti 4200, dial up internet connection are the rec. specs IIRC)

+ good vending system for your self made products

+ very stable

+ free to play

+ very helpful game forum (tons of good guides!)

+ great atmosphere

- the graphics arent that hawt (especially ground textures, but sea battles look good)

- open beta ( but it feel as much a beta as EB IMHO)

- weird text translations from time to time (its a korean game, translated by the Dev´s)

- a bit laggy (in towns, when 20+ people are trying to sell thier products)

- huge download (1 gig, 3 gigs after installation)

Resumee: 4.5 BBs out of 5 so far

If youre waiting for Pirates of the Burning Sea or *gasp* Pirates of the Carribean Online or you simply like the setting, this game kicks *** ~D

Note: Maybe i´m bit biased, i loved these kind of games since Pirates! for C64
came out. :captain:

Been playing Voyage Century Online these past couple of days, really enjoying it. I like how you can easily go non-combat and still get somewhere and still be useful as well. I've been playing a pirate-hunter, which is apparently not the easiest one to start out as but i've had fun anyway. Right now i'm working on getting the resources needed to upgrade my ship. I highly recommend it to any Pirates! fans, or fans of trading games since trading/crafting is a big part of it too.

If anyone wants to hunt pirates together i'm playing on the De Gama server as Vyaeton, sailing around in the Morgan_Le_Fay.

Bava
02-24-2007, 12:01
Oh, a Da Gama player. Perhaps i´ll start a new char on Cook or Gama as Columbus is a bit laggy from time to time.

Some hints for newbies in VCO:

Do all the merchants quest in Beirut, Alexandria, Athens and Istanbul. This way youll have ~1 million and a lvl 3 merchant ship so you dont have to worry about money (ship upgrades and good weapons are VERY expensive, especially player-made ones).

If you want more rep, do adventurer guild quests (you get about 100 points for
a discovery).

Edit: Oh and my ingame name is malibu_stacy, sailing the PMS Bloody Revenge ~D

ChaosLord
02-24-2007, 18:53
Yeah I recommend De Gama, I choose it because it was next to newest (Cook being the newest). Not as laggy as the old ones but not deserted either. Heh, I haven't done any merchant quests so far, only warrior quests. But between that and some exploring i've gotten up to 140k.

Currently waiting for Pirates of the Burning Sea...

I'm playing VCO a fair amount, but my main problem is the crashing. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's extremely annoying.

On the bright side, at least it crashes quickly so I can fire it up again right away.

Currently waiting for Pirates of the Burning Sea...

Hehe, me too. It´ll be the first MMORPG im willing to pay a monthly fee for.
The screenshots look fantastic and what i read about the gameplay sounds really nice, too, especially the emphasis on realism (no Sword of Destroying +4 ~D) and that all available goods are player made.

EMFM, sorry to hear you´ve probs with VCO. But youre right, at least VCO crashes quickly^^

Btw, what server youre playing on?

ShadeHonestus
02-28-2007, 16:47
Da Gama

I'm a little concerned about skills and skill points. Not to mention the real money fortune it takes to unlearn them.

Evil_Maniac From Mars
03-01-2007, 00:13
I play Da Gama. It's crashing less now then it did at the beginning, on the bright side. Naval battles are going well, and I have a fair amount of cash sitting back, enough so that I can leave the Mediterranean.

Can I do merchant quests using an armed ship?

Yes, they'll just take longer.

Bava
03-02-2007, 16:50
Hehe, a LOT longer. :captain:

my lvl 4 merchant ship has ~1600 loading capacity, my lvl 4 raider only ~500. I would suggest to get at least a lvl 3 merch to finance your warrior/discoverer career. AND you need Eloquence (gained through trading quests) to wear some of the high level armor.

Also try to get your resource gathering skills to lvl 25, it will save you a lot of money at the beginning.

Edit:here´s a link to some of the most important guides (http://www.voyagecenturyonline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10864)

ShadeHonestus
03-02-2007, 16:56
lvl 2 merch and the water dolphin figurehead sure speeds the quests along :D

I'm raising the merch and armed ship at the same time because sometimes I desperately need a break from those merch quests...not the most exciting thing...

MostWanted on Columbus. Very nice, small lvl2 guild (~ 10 active members, but all have at least a lvl 4 ship). The only "let-down": it´s a german-speaking guild ( i actually wanted to polish up my english ~D).

Edit: here´s a pic of my raider, the Argo.

Bava

Can can find him(!) in the amphitheatre in Athens Suburb.

Another good quest: controlling the bees (or something like that ~D). quest starter is the alliance master on thassos island, reward: 1.000.000 silver, 5.000.000 voyage points (you should have voyage lvl 25 to be able to start the quest though)
